Jayco 23j Roof Sagging

We bought a new 2011 Jayco 23j this year and noticed that the when we ran the airconditioner the last few times we were not getting any condensation coming off the roof. This last weekend we were out camping and it rained, I noticed that we didnt have any water coming off the roof. I grabbed a step ladder and looked on the rood and it has a big drop towards the air conditioner and the water was sitting on the roof in a big puddle. Has anyone else experienced this issue with their hybrids?

I hope it's not serious, but it doesn't sound good.

I see your TT is a 2011 model, are the 2 year warranties transferrable? If so, I'd take it in to a dealer and have them check it.

Good Luck!

Mine has been that way since new. Never has the air conditioner drained off the roof. I always keep the trailer slightly tilted back and to the slide side. Rain does drain off, but I know that there is a puddle on the roof. When the trailer is stored at my house, I can look at the roof as I come down the driveway. After a rain there is always a puddle around the air conditioner. This has caused me some concern, but I haven't brought it up to the dealer or Jayco.

Same with mine. I really noticed it while cleaning the roof. The rest dry except for he small puddle. I now manipulate the angle for run off to a specific gutter.

I sent an email to Jayco tonight regarding this topic. My trailer is currently at my dealer for some other work, so maybe they can connect with the dealer to check to see if this is a problem or not. I will post what Jayco tells me.

I am far from a TT expert, but I have owned one for the last 10 years. If mine had such an issue, it would be at the dealers, and some one would be explaining to me, why the sag! Then again, since you both appear to own a similar TT maybe it is part of the design.

Mine is a 2010, second owner, no warranty. No leaks. Solid roof, no problems. Hope for the best.

It will be interesting to see what Jayco says, I am taking mine back to the dealer on Friday, I figure that sooner or later the puddle will leak. It should run off the roof. I bought it new so my warranty is still good, I also saw on the Jayco site that they have Lifetime warranties on the roof and floor.

Well, I've never looked, mine drains when the AC is running (pretty much all the time now ). But I've never looked for a puddle. Experience our first major rain this week, lots of drainage. I have a 2012.

My X17Z roof has been puddling since we brought it home. I also have adjusted the tilt (about 1" higher in front) to accommodate draining. However, we had a major rainstorm last week which resulted in water coming in thru rhe AC. Resolved this by raising the front by another 2". Unit is going in next week for a water heater valve issue & I'll be adding the roof concern to the list.

I have a 2012 23xb and mine drains with the A/C and rain. I would have the non draining TTs looked at.

My BIL had a '06' 23B and his would puddle up around the A/C as well. Over time he developed a small leak around the A/C gasket and it wasn't noticed until the ceiling started showing signs that moisture had been absorbed.

Don't know why the Hybrids have such a flat roof, especially around the A/C.

Below is the reply from Jayco. I think that being that the roof is perfectly flat, no pitch at all, it would seem reasonable to me that the weight of the air conditioner would cause the roof to drop just enough to cause a small puddle when running the air or after a rain. During storage I am going to pitch the trailer more than I have to keep the puddle from forming. Even though Jayco is not concerned witht the problem, I think that keeping water off the roof during storage would be a good way to prevent the posibility of problems if the air conditioner seal fails.

"I understand you concern for water pooling at the AC location. When the AC bolts are tightened down they are applying quite a bit of pressure in that location. This is common with this type of roof. We recommend you drop either the front or the rear after a rain to allow for runoff. The same can be done while using the AC. Continue in the future checking the AC bolts for proper tightness after long travels or frequent travels during the season."

If this type of roof as designed and built by Jayco commonly causes a puddle at the AC gasket to the extent that the owner is instructed to make the trailer un-level in use then Jayco has a very poor design. I am amazed at the quality issues that seem to be present in trailers made by many manufacturers. Reminds me of the US automobile industry in the 70's... before the Japanese showed us how reliable an automobile could be.

Wow, what a horrible response from Jayco! Level is the key, I was told, time and time again. I will keep a close eye on my roof to see if pooling occurs. Mine drains fine now, but I won't settle if my roof starts to pool.

I will post what I hear from the dealer when I get it back tommorrow. I agree that it is a poor roof design or a faulty roof one of the two.

i talked to the dealer today and they said that they did not see any issues with the roof.....I will pick it up on Saturday, but Am thinking that I might have to kick and scream a little to get this issue taken care of.....
