Long trips with your HTT

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anyone out there took their HTT out for long hauls. And if so, what's your appreciation of your A/C versus your canvass in hot weather? Were you able to sleep comfortably and did you experience problems with condensation?

We spent 7 nights on the eastern shore of Va in August of last year. It was hot (90+) the entire time with significant humidity. The X18D trailer and AC did an awesome job at keeping the entire family cool and comfy. We tend to close the bunk curtains during the day to help keep the cool air focused in the main cabin.

No issues with condensation. We did have a shades site which helped, in case of direct sunlight i recommend some bunk end covers (PUGS)

I wouldnt let the heat deter you.

We have lots of trips in our htt, in all kinds of conditions. We were out in 104 degree Temps in high humidity, no issues, the AC kept the htt nice and comfortable, the tent ends were just slightly warmer then the rest of the unit.. The longest continuous trip was 18 nights to the Rockies.

Only times we have had condensation issues was in the early and late season trips. What we found to eliminate it is, to keep the roof vent open 1/2 to 1 inch, and opening a bunk side window a few inches. This has eliminated all condensation.

We own a Jayco X23B. We have driven from Kentucky to Alaska and back. Gone 3 months. Twice driven from Kentucky to California and back. Gone Two months each time. Near Carlsbad caverns on one trip the temp was 102. Air on the X23B kept us quite comfortable. We live in Kentucky and it can get very humid here. The few times we have used the air here in hot humid weather it did fine. the only complaint we have is that it is pretty loud.

We have had a bit condensation a when traveling in the spring and fall, but creating cross ventilation by opening the screens on opposite sides of the bunk takes care of most of it. Occasionally have to pull the mattress and wipe down the bunk.

It's our first season with an x18D, and we first used the A/C this past weekend with 90° temps. Being able to sleep with less humidity was just fabulous! Only issue we had was that our unit is noisier than we'd like (somehow the noise level didn't bother us during the PDI.. we were too excited!) No condensation issues. As stated above, that tends to happen with a warm inside and a cool, damp outside.. then you may get a little under the beds... but cracking the two ends solved it for us.

We've taken two long trips with our previous Kiwi 17a. One was a 6000 mile trip from SE WI to Monterrey, CA and back, though Las Vegas, and up though Montana on the return leg. We experienced 100 degree heat in the desert, and 28 degrees and snow in Montana and Wyoming. During the day in Vegas we left the AC on and it kept the trailer reasonably comfortable. It was just fine at night. In the cold weather at West Yellowstone, MT we were nice and toasty warm. Kept the corner of a flap open and condensation was minimal.

Our other trip was only to Yellowstone. Upper 20s at night. Same as above, nice and toasty warm.

We don't use PUGs either. I find them a hassle.

We're taking the X20E to Gatlinburg TN in a few weeks, but I'm not expecting any weather extremes.
