looking for Mod idea

anyone have an X17A or Z (or others that may apply)and modified the wasted space above the radio?

Looking for any ideas. haven't been able to find any mods online but recall some people doing something with this area.

Can you post a picture of the area? I don't have so a picture would help the creative juices flow

looking for Mod idea

I have an x23b, but here is my mod. The radio was on the bottom and there was a false panel on top. I moved the radio up to the top spot and made a shelf on the bottom. My best move was adding an electrical outlet in the cubby of the new shelf. We put keys, wallets and remotes in there. Enjoy! Click image for larger version

That would definitely be better than the way it is Bikester plus it might just keep the 3 year old away from the stereo

are you running RCA jacks out of the radio for your DVD?

Yes, I run the RCA jacks out of the iRV DVD/Radio unit to the TV. Here are a few more pics that I just ran out to the camper to take. I didn't have the TV installed when I took the last set of pics. Sorry if they are grainy...it's dark out . Also, I bought a cheap voltmeter that I leave plugged into the cubby outlet so I can keep an eye on power surges and deficits at all times. If it looks like the above... Quick ideas... A weather station mounted nicely, cell phone charging location (if you add the electrical outlet) (maybe a panel in the back with USB ports mounted to remove more clutter for charging).

I did something very similar to Bikester. I took the panel from under our J-Sofa to line the inside of cabinet with for looks. I also added two 12 auxiliary outlets, to charge phones, tables and so forth. On the 23B I have all of our slideout controls, tank information along the one wall side and all the TV and radio wiring along the back (outside) wall, so I just framed it up with a false wall, to hide all that stuff. I used my small brad nailler (sp??) to assemble it all.

I love the idea of an outlet there but would require a ton of work. Unlikely able to fish a line on the X17A

Does the Blank panel pop out or does it require some cutting to form the opening? I have an X20E where I could utilize that unused space.

I did pull an additional wire. It took a bit of work, I actually pulled the base (I guess that might be what it is called) from the cabinets next to it so I could pull the wires. It took a couple hours but well worth it. I thought about tying into the power feed for the stereo.

Dagwood, the panel just popped out with some careful persuasion. Aka I used a hammer and lightly tapped on the panel going around the edges a few times. There are a lot of staples hold everything together, no glue. Once it started coming out it was fairly easy to get it out without damaging anything. My plan was to do the work in such a way that if I did not like it, I could put it back together like original.

Here is a picture of the cabinet that I pulled the base out so I could route additional wires.

The false panel just popped off easily. It's very cheap plywood. It was easy for me to put an outlet in the cubby because there was already an outlet in the bottom of the whole unit. You can see the TV plugged into the original outlet in this pic. I just pulled off that box. I have not blown any fuses so far .
