Mould in fridge?

Hello

After not using the trailer for a couple of weeks, we went to use it this weekend discovered mould in our refrigerator. The trailer was not plugged in for the two weeks where we did not use it, and the fridge was emptied. However we did plug it in two days ago to cool the fridge down. Is there anyway to avoid this mould from revering in the refrigerator? Should we leave the door open when not in use? Any help would be appreciated.

That is one thing you never want to do, close the fridge doors all the way when it is not in use. We wedge them open about 2 inches for air circulation. So far no mold issues, and we live in Florida.

I would leave it at least cracked open. Mine has little pins you push out that allows the door to stay in place, but also allows air in. Mine is stored and gets used often in the summer, some in the fall and spring, and usually once or twice in the winter. Never had an issue with mold. Not only do I clean mine after every stay, but I also wipe it out so there is no dampness.

We always leave the doors wide open until all is completely dry. Ours also has the little pins mentioned above, we use those also, we never close it all the way unless in use.

If you had it in use for 2 weeks then stored it, was there frost in the freezer or back of fridge? We always keep our doors pinned open and about 24 hours after we emptied the fridge we go back with a towel an soak up ony water that may have pooled in the bottom of the freezer or fridge and then lebve the, doors cracked.

I always put an old bath towel In the bottom of the freezer and the fridge when we store it and leave the doors open that way the towel will absorb any moisture.

You likely have the pins in your handle and don't know about them. They are not always reliable, however. There is an alternative sold at Camping World, just a piece of plastic that wedges between both doors and holds them open. A bit pricey for what it is (I think I paid 6 bucks or so), but it's important to leave the doors propped open. Also, remove ice trays, etc and don't put them back in unless they are completely dry. I never store my trailer without the doors open a little bit.

Mold needs 2 things, food and a hospitable environment. First clean your fridge with a product that contains bleach like Clorox Cleanup. Second never store any refrigerator or freezer for any length of time with the door completely closed. Prop it open, put a spacer or loosely roll up a towel and drape it over the top of the door to keep it from closing all the way and your fridge/freezer will stay nice and fresh in storage. The same principle applies to your favorite cooler/ice chest...never store tightly closed or with any traces of food, pop or whatever inside.

We also had mold in ours and like others have stated, we now leave the door open when in storage.

Try putting a small box of Arm & Hammer baking soda with the top popped open in there along with leaving the doors cracked as others have said. It will smell fresh and clean and you won't have mold problems.

I had a hard time lining up the pins in the bottom door till I realize I just have to lift up on the bottom of the door to line it up to the hole.
