Need help!!Tailgate won't open down all the way!!
So I just replaced my Nissan Titan with an F-150 and now my tailgate won't open all the way because of my trailer tongue jack!! What can I do? I really need the tailgate down to store my camping gear. I just purchased a bed extender that I would really like to use! Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

You could get one of those jacks that fold up. I had one one my work trailer, worked nice with my f250.

What length shank are you using? Maybe you could get a longer one.

Thanks Daytripper. I opened link but not sure how that works. How does that attach? Would it be too much to remove tongue jack and put back on when I get to campground? Thanks!!

Hey ADK. I'm not sure what size shank I have? I'm not even sure what a shank is? Sorry. I have a 19h and was not expecting this when I exchanged trucks. Thanks

Here's a page that explains shank measurements. As said above, you need a longer one.

Shank or extension is the thingy that the ball attaches to and inserts into the receiver on the tow vehicle.

It just bolts to the side of the frame with supplied ubolts, old jack is held on with 3 or 4 bolts, easy off easy on. But if the longer shank options work, it sounds like a better option heh heh.

Can you turn the jack 90* so the the crank is facing the side not the front?

Just a thought...do you want to get a power jack? The control head may be positioned higher and and out of the way of the arc generated by the top of the tailgate of your truck

Hey, thanks for all the suggestions! I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I would like a power jack but don't have the cash and I really like my tailgate.

Even if your tailgate did clear the jack, I doubt you could tow with the tailgate down with the bed extender because the tailgate may hit the battery (or something else) during TV turns.
If it's just the tongue jack handle that's in the way, pop the top cover off the jack and see if the handle can be easily removed. Maybe the handle can be inserted without being "attached" and still function (then store elsewhere when not in use).

Out of curiosity, are you using a weight distribution hitch?

Rustic Eagle, With my Titan, I would tow with the tailgate down with a bed extender. It wouldn't hit the battery and it would clear the handle.

Just curious, how much clearance did you have between the tailgate and the jack handle with your Titan?

I would say a good 6-8 inches.

This image shows the catalog numbers of the equalizer shanks. I see that they offer a 12" overall length and an 18" overall length. I know they are not cheap, but if you have the 12", then perhaps the 18" would solve the issue? The Fords must have a tall tailgate!
