New to the camper world - x19h

We just graduated from tent camping and picked up a 2011 x19h. It was loved by an older couple and is in like new shape. We're stoked to try it out.

Question, has anyone added a lift kit to these? I'm assuming they're torflex axles and the dexter torflex lift kit would work.

Hi and welcome to JOF. That trailer looks strangely familiar to me Great choice.

We have not lifted ours, and not really planning on it. Have not yet scraped belly on anything, and it does have a couple of skids on the two back frame rails (no scrapes on those either from prior owner). So, IMO, ground clearance is better than it looks.

And yes, the 2011 is Torflex. Note that both the sales brochure and the owners manual are available on the Jayco website if you want them. Downloading the awning manual from Carefree of Colorado really helped with understanding the adjustment of the unit as well.

When I first glanced at the first picture in the original post, I thought the roof behind the camper was a solar array on TOP of the camper. I wondered if you were trying to power a small town!

Lol, I'd love to get some solar panels, but you're right, that may be a little overkill...

There was a lift kit available for some models. Best to check with a dealer and see if it's something that can be added after the fact.

We do not have a lift kit. Our X20E sits about the same height as your X19H. Never scraped the skid bars. Our old '03 Kiwi 17A was really close to the ground and I only scraped the skid bars a couple of times the first year.

That said you might want to tow it a few times to determine if you really need the lift kit.

We have a X23b and we got the optional 2" lift kit, but It still is very low.. We're thinking about going with 14" wheels and tires when it's time to change. (If they will fit)

I looked quite a bit when I wanted to lift mine. We go to Colorado hunting and the 'roads' aren't very trailer friendly so a 3" lift was in order.
I unbolted both axles and cut the top off in the shape of a house (like you'd draw as a kid). Then created a top part that matched the piece I cut off but was 3" taller. If I remember right it is a fish mouth weld. Then I drilled new holes in the top piece to match the frame. After getting the axles in place I put a piece of flat steel (3/16") over the entire bracket it with the same bolt holes so my new brackets would get sandwiched between these plates and the trailer frame. Benn a few thousand miles (longest trip was 1900) and haven't had any issues.
Here is a horrible Paint rendition of what the old bracket (gray) next to the new bracket (red/gray) looked like. Black rectangle at the bottom is the axle. Of course these are not to scale...

How did your LX470 tow? I have a x19h on order, and a '06 Land Cruiser as a TV and I'm little worried I might not have enough power for Colorado.

I don't have a ton of experience towing, but I thought it did fine. Stability wise (with the WDH) it was great. It struggled a little on some of the steep hills, but I think anything other than a full size gasser or diesel would also really feel it. I averaged 9.5mpg going through the local mtns here. I suspect if I were doing some more highway towing I'd be closer to 10.5-12 (I currently get about 16 on strictly hwy driving (12-13 mixed)).

I'm also running 33" tires with a 2.5" lift, so that certainly doesn't do me any favors in regards to towing.

I daydream of installing Doug Thorley headers and doing a full stainless high flow exhaust. I'm sure it would help quite a bit in the power department, but at a likely cost of $2k+, I'm probably better off paying for the extra gas.

Well, it looks like the 19h has a norco frame with dexter axles/norco mounting brackets, of which there is no lift kit for. So, time to design my own. I went with a lift bracket that is completely bolt on (have to drill two holes). I will update once I get these back from the fabricator.

That is a great setup! Only thing I see is that you may put a piece above the original bracket where it turns out away from the frame to take up the small space between your new bracket and the frame. Does that make sense?
I like that setup better than what I did.
