Newbie here, is it true you have to remove your WDH and sway bar ....
when you back up to set up on your site. We just watched a Youtube video (Thomas Family RV) and they recommended this. They said the WDH and sway bar is for highway/road use only. We are leaving on Thursday and yikes, so much to learn in such a short amount of time.

I have done both. If I have lots of room to maneuver with no tight turns I just back in. If I need to make a tight turn I will take it off. I don't use a sway bar so I can't answer that part of the question.

Sway bar, yes I would remove it before backing in. You should not need to remove the spring bars, at least I never have.

When I had sway bars I never removed them while reversing if the angles between the trailer and truck were the same as they are going forward. The sway bar is directionally insensitive. The only reason to remove them is if the angle between the trailer and truck would be so extreme as to exceed the travel of the sway bar. Thus it pays to know what that travel is when installed on the rig.

What type of equipment do you have?
In general, examine the site first....if when parked, the terrain will leave the TT/TV in a relationship like this.... / \ or _ _ , you should be able to safely unhook the WDH spring bars. If the terrain leaves your TT/TV in a relationship like this... \ /, you will have great difficulty removing the spring bars and are putting tremendous tension on the spring bars, A-Frame and hitch.
There are some anti-sway friction bars that recommend disconnecting before slow speed backwards maneuvering....they will hang, bend and sometimes snap the connection joints off

Most manufactures recommend removing the standard friction control sway bar when backing, this isn't to be confused with the WDH spring bars.
I have yet had to remove my spring bars from the WDH, and I've backed into some challenging campsites over the years. If you should ever feel that the spring bars need to be removed, keep in mind that the ground clearance beneath the WDH will be compromised.

As instructed by my dealer, I only remove the sway bar. I leave the WDH on.

Great point Rustic Eagle about the ground clearance. I found that out accidentally...luckily I noticed it quickly and was able to reattach before doing any damage. Always learning.

All the Husky WDH I saw online had chains to lift the bars...you wont have much difficulty releasing / attaching these types of bars regardless of the terrain (4-way control WDH types- like Equal-I-Zer brand - are a different story on uneven terrain).
You definitely want to disconnect the anti-sway bar...the Husky types I saw online can bind, fold and shear on tight maneuverings.
Happy Camping! Let us know how it goes!

I had a Valley WDS and sway control. Then I installed a Hensley Arrow Hitch. I have never removed the bars when backing into a site.

I agree I would remove the sway bar but not the WDH. I have never taken these off while backing into a site.

If I don't remove my sway bar before backing in, my hitch clip on the trailer side gets bent. So, now it comes off before backing in.
