Newbie looking at 2001 Kiwi 17A

Wife and I are going look at an older Jayco Kiwi 17A this weekend. At $4500, it's quite a bit cheaper than a new X17Z. The owner says there is a small amount of water damage that has been repaired and no longer leaks. But it still seems like it might be a good way to decide if we're going to be camperholics.

Tow vehicle is a Ford Flex rated at 4500 / 450 tongue weight. Any thoughts or concerns?

I think that's a bit high myself. We just traded a 2003 Kiwi 17a that was in immaculate condition, no leaks, no smell, etc. The dealer was asking less than $5k and it sold in less than a month. Check the floor for soft spots and the sides for signs of delamination.

In theory the Flex should be fine, but you may not like towing through mountains or hilly terrain. I'd also find out if there is a frontal area limitation to the Flex. Towing a box, even a small one will put a strain on your vehicle.

Well, we looked at the Kiwi today. Kinda disappointed, very musty smelling and definitely showing its age. Think we'll keep looking, but is it realistic to find an x17z (our preferred floor plan) or something comparable used and in decent shape?
