Newbie to both forum and camping

Hi All....I am a Newbie to both this forum and camping...so be gentle please.

We just bought a nice condition 2006 23B...loved the layout and so far have been on two outings...all seems pretty good. a few questions though.

This weekend we seemed to develop a sulpher smell in the hot water...only when using the electric heat. I did some research and seems there may be microbes that emit this smell when the water is hot...so I will attempt a chlorine flush of the system. any idea what mixture chlorine to water?.. I figure to put 12 gallons of the mixture in the FW tank then pump it through and let it sit for a day, then flush loads of fresh clean water.

second Q....I see the pop-outs are vinyl covered canvas, and they are in great shape and do not leak...however, I have an inkling I should weatherproof them somehow...I am in the marine industry and familiar with what we use there on sunbrella products...but this is not sunbrella...its vinyl covered...any help here...I have searched the forum and am awfully confused as to the proper procedure.

looking forward to the camping lifestyle and the help..

Thanks all

Welcome PYG to the friendliest RV forum on the 'net! I found this article about sanitizing water systems and it gives the chlorine to water ratio.

Enjoy your new to you X23B. We really like ours. As far as canvas care goes, you can use Pop-Up Gizmos, or PUGs as they are called. A lot of folks seem to like 'em.

Welcome and congrats on the first rig!!!

I have noticed that before, but the next trip is fine. It seems sometimes it may be the water itself if you had a fresh water hook up.

Have fun!!!

Thank to all the well-wishers...this looks like its gonna be a fun ride!

Anyone have any advise on front mounts for bikes...I don't like the idea of mounting them on the back, and I have a trailblazer so putting them in the bed is not possible. I have heard of some mounts you can get that bolt onto the frame and put them above the propane tanks...but have yet to locate manufacturers.

Just in case, you should have a look at your heating element in the water heater. When they start to corrode and go bad they start to give off a sulphur smell in the water. Just a thought for something to look into.
