Propane

How long will a 20 lb tank last dry camping running the fridge and hot water heater?
Thanks

Of course this is an estimate based on my wife and I. We also use the stove, oven, and propane grill.

We get a solid two weeks from a refill. You should be able to go longer. Of course if you use more hot water, have a bigger fridge, the weather is hotter, . . . ymmv.

Overall, that is a hard one to answer. A lot depends on your usage.

Just the frig, you can go all summer.

WH, that is a wild card, how many showers are you taking, how often does the WH need to cycle.

Our HTT has dual tanks, so when we got our HTT, after a few trips, and still only using the first tank, I pulled it off, and went to have it filled. I do not recall how much propane was put into it, but very little. This made me a little more comfortable with how long we could go.

So here are some numbers;
430K BTUs - 20# propane tank holds
8800 BTU/hr - Atwood Water heater
2400 BTU/hr -Norcold Frig
30K BTU/hr - RV Furnace (there are a few different sizes, but this is most common)
The thing to remember. The frig and WH are not always using propane, they cycle on and off as needed. If they cycled on, and never off, you would get about 38 hours of run time on a single #20 tank. What tends to consume a lot of gas and 12V power is the furnace.

We do not tend to use our water heater a lot, and have gone 80 nights of mixed boondocking and electric only sites.

We usually use one 20lb tank per season (refill one of the two onboard) of mostly boondock weekends. BUT we never use our water heater. Showers are taken in the lake. Hot water is made on the stove for coffee and dish washing. Much more efficient use of your fuel resources that way, and helps the gray tank storage too.
