Put it to rest for winter

Well as the title says, we pulled the trailer to the dealer today for winter storage. They have a good deal for the first winter after you buy a trailer from them, they winterize it, and store it untill spring. Then they pull it out, wash it and flush the system and you are good to go for the next year. If there is problems with the unit or anything you would like done with it, they will do it over the winter months. The first year is only $159. You cant beat that.

That is a really great deal! It is to bad that it is the end to your season though. We have one more trip to Saco Maine with my new truck at the end of September and then the tent ends get pulled off to be replaced (warranty) and it gets stored in a building at a nearby fair ground. That costs us roughly 275 for end of Nov to end of April (Last April it came home in the middle of a snow storm). Peace of mind when it is tucked away during the heavy snow!

Wow, everyone is winterizing and we are just getting loaded for the winter. We pull out tomorrow.

I will take some pics after we are loaded but I probably won't get them up until next week some time.

We don't have enough winter to winterize. Just camp year around.

It is outdoor storage, in a fenced in compound. They go through them all once a month to check for any rodent activity as well. I wish we could use it more, but most of the local places are shut down now or will be soon. We have had two nites of frost allready. And to top it off we move to our new house on the 28 of Sept, and then leave for Disney on Oct 1st.

We will be doing the same thing soon. This will be my first experience doing this and I'm wondering what items do you leave in the trailer over the winter, or do you remove EVERYTHING? Can I leave dishes? Linens? Obviously I will be removing all food.

we clear out everything that can be shredded if mice come in but not dishes or things like that. Being in mid/north NH, I am in firm belief that if your tt is set in a perm position and left- and it is still "warm"- the mice still are searching for a home for the winter and may find your quiet tt. We store in late November and because it is already consistently colder- the mice are already sold on their home....or so I would hope. Of course there is drier sheets used throughout. I also sprinkle rodent repell around the tires and hitch which just give the mice another reason not to sniff around.

Dryer sheets ROTFLOL last winter my buddy put dryer sheets all over his RV the mice used it as toilet paper... ... ... a solar panel, battery hooked to a small inverter and an ultrasonic pest repeller is the way to go for those that leave the RV alone over the winter.

We take out all linen and food, but leave the hard items. The exterminater that services my place of work laughed at me when I mentioned bounce sheets or moth balls for rodent repellents.

I have heard stories about mice and drier sheets and the rare occassion they use them for bedding- but the deal is this: Mice look for a warm place to bed in the cold and food. I will bank on the small investment of the sheets and rodent repel around the tires against leaving your tt as is or a solar panel that has no sun. So....Ok, solar panel- in a building? I guess that is an element that would be missing, wouldn't it? As for the exterminator laughing- I might understand his point if there weren't thousands of people using drier sheets each year and the success it seems to bring. Works for me and those I know......so laugh if they want. If you don't mind- park your tt next to mine if you are not using the sheets so that the mice devert from mine to yours.

But you never know if it was the sheets or just no mice activity anyways.

you know, I am getting tired of this thread. I simply replied what we do, like we have done.....like everyone I know does and has been handed down through the years. Drier sheets, moth balls and me adding rodent repel around the outside tires and hitch. It is a very inexpensive thing to do. No, to the best of my knowledge there has not been a scientific grant given nor night cameras used to show what the little things are doing. But if you want to argue it, fine- just don't add in your stupid little letters that make it sound like it is just about the dumbest thing ever done. Fine, I will keep my mouth shut about what I do or what was passed along to me- even though dealers say it can't hurt in the end. Maybe I am a little sensitive tonight, but whatever- if you don't believe in it say so, not laugh about it or say that it can't be proved anyway. It's like me saying that what you are paying is too high when it is simply stored outside and they do about a half hours work with 20 dollars in material. If it gives you peace of mind- more power to you- and I will hold any laughter to myself if I have some. Chillywilly- I think it isnt bad in price, honest- just to get the point across- you are relieved in what you purchased- so good for you. Enough of this though, do what you want and laugh all you want- I will take the $20 in material and cross my fingers

Well, if it's stored outside, I am not as jealous anymore, I get that for free.
And I have the option of checking on the trailer - I prefer doing that myself.

But if you don't have a parking spot around your house, then it sounds like a good option.

Sorry if I offended you, I wasn't making fun of the dryer sheet and moth ball method. I was just saying you never know if it works or is just dumb luck. The repelant is a good idea, as I said i put some poison bags is mine. As for storage rates around here, $40 a month is the going rate for outdoor storage in a fenced lot. So the fact that they do the winterizing is a pure bonus. Next year it will sit in my driveway, but with the move and then the vacation 3 days later, i just couldn't be bothered with playing around with it.

absolutely my bad. I am sorry- it was a stressful day and took it out the wrong wayand over reacted. That is what I love about this forum now.....everyone is polite and harmless fun. I am yet humbled again...sorry. But in my own defense- I though I was clever with the night camera part....lol! God, I love this forum! Thanks for the reply- seriously!

I think the mice/dryer sheet issue has been put to bed for the Winter, like the thread title. Moving right along now.......
