We started with a hybrid, an older 2003 18F. It was great when the kids were little. We recently upgraded to a bunkhouse trailer as the kids have grown. Taking down a table every night was becoming a pain.
We loved the hybrid experience, both DW and I grew up with pop ups. Our hybrid was our pop-up with a bathroom. I loved how easy it was to get fresh air in the trailer. Noise has never been a big issue, but we normally ran fans or the furnace. The furnace kept it nice and warm. I also used it during elk hunting season on the Oregon coast. It rained for days and it was great to come back and dry off and warm up.
I say rent one for a weekend and try it. We loved ours, just kind of outgrew it. I will admit we never tried the “turtle” thing but without a slide I think it would be miserable with four. Good Luck

I tow a 2011 X19H with a V6 Grand Cherokee (Trailhawk) and its well within the specs to do-so. No issues, no squat (air suspension), a 500# TW weight distribution hitch and basic Curt brake controller makes it a very nice-to-tow ride.
We've had the X19H for about 4 years and absolutely love it, by the way. Our friends are looking at one in a few hours, too... they love the layout and features.

We downsized from a 5 th wheel to an expandable. We love it. Noise ? We are not put out by a little noise. We use gizmos that helps. We have room for us and our two setters. Easy to set up and pull. Cheaper to pull! We spend three months every winter in our hybrid. Never change.

For my wife and I, our hybrid is a perfect balance. We love the tent feel/sounds especially when it rains and the conveniences of a hard side camper for the kitchen and seating area.
