Realistic trade-in for a 2014 X17Z?

We bought the 2014 X17Z late last fall for about $17,995 (CDN). BEFORE taxes that is o.O This wasn't our "dream" TT only because it's size. (4 kids and a dog). We just upgraded our TV yesterday to a 2012 Suburban. NOW, I have room to tow something larger Looking at the 2015 X23B

What is a realistic depreciation value for the X17Z?? 20%?
I got a ball park price from the dealership and they said $12,000! That's super low IMO or is it??

Question is, should I try to sell privately (dealership will let the deal go through their books so we only have to pay tax on the difference when we buy the new) or bite the bullet and trade in with them?

Between a new TV and now looking at the 2015 X23B TT...this is going to be one EXPENSIVE month!

There is no "generic" number that I know of. It depends on the market in you area and what the dealer actually pays for the new unit. Higher volume dealers get better pricing than others.

I was offered 60% of purchase price 15 months later as a trade in. Delayed the move 1 year, so at 26 mths same dealer offered 55%. I asked why it was worth 40% less in the first year and only 5% more over the next year to them...reason quoted to me was because they still had the model year I was trading in as new on the lot and needed to sell my trade in very low or it would have devalued there new inventory even more.

I ultimately sold private party when the TT was 26 months old for 75% of what I paid for it new.

I would guess you would see similar depreciations. 60% or purchase price for trade in or 75-80% to sell private party. All this assumes getting the ~30% off. MSRP for you new unit. If you pay more for the new unit the the trade value could increase too I suppose.

I didn't mean to be or sound sarcastic but that's the way it came out. Now I would be worried if all that hit me in 6 months. As far as the Suburban goes now that I have all the facts I say it's not Big enough, you need a stretch Suburban with a Gorilla under the hood.

You take a big hit the first couple of years because folks are understandably not willing to pay near new prices for a titled used unit, and the warranty regrettably is not transferable to the new owner. Your best bet would be a private sale, but not everyone is willing to take that and all that goes with it on. You could try to sell it for 15K and see what happens. And with the trade in option there really is no easy way out as the dealer has all the leverage with a late model trade in.

We MIGHT be doing the same thing if the numbers don't work. I was able to negotiate a VERY good price on the used Suburban and was able to get a good trade in. It was a slow June at the dealership! haha

I might look into selling private even though, I hate the hassle that goes along with it.

The Suburban tows 8400 pounds, I think that's enough for a 23B. No?
Keep in mind 2 of my children are under 3 years old.

So what kind of TV do you propose?

Thinking long term and future forward? Three words: Full size truck.

I would think that, but my kids ages range from 16, 13, 3 and 1. Youngest 2 are maybe 60lbs combined. My teen son has started working part time, off to university before I know it and my 13 year old daughter has started to scale down the camping trips with us (goes to her dads when we go). So realistically....a year or two more, I wouldn't have a full crew at all times.

Full size truck? Suburban isn't considered full size? Thing is HUGE LOL

Suburban is too big, as in heavy. You loose so much tow capacity.

Also. I'm in the same boat as you. Sort of. We own an SUV and bought a X23B because of two capacity. It only took a couple of hauls to have us decide that we need to upgrade our TV. We are now shopping for a truck.

The wife is like: Great, we could've bought a bigger trailer.

I'm like: Why? This one is fine.

Ohhh ic ic! Makes sense! Truck shopping is hard. I like one, it's too expensive, real pig on gas, won't pull or won't fit all my kids. Just one thing after another o.O Suburban is 7200lbs!

The dealer is always going to low ball you on the price. He has to turn around and sell it at enough of a mark up so they can make some money also. Also the same new unit on the lot could be marked up enough that they can come way down on that price also which would make someone want to buy the new unit instead of the same used unit. You can look online and see what like units are selling for and then place an ad for your unit at a comparable price. I have never had a problem selling my used well maintained units at several thousand dollars more than the dealer was offering me. Your unit is actually worth what a buyer is willing to pay you for it.

I think before the TV debate started there was question on resale/trade-in value. :-)

We recently bought a 2014 28DSBH and when I talked trade-in of our 2008 19H, the salesman brought out a "black book", which is used for wholesale values. Remember that the dealer has to sell it, so they would expect to pay wholesale.

The wholesale value was $5500, so he highly recommended that we sell privately and ask a reasonable price. We ended up selling it for $10,500 on Kijijii in about 3 days.

My advice: sell it privately and don't try to get all your money back that you paid when you bought it new ;-)

Think of the new trailer that you'll be getting!
