Can I run my refrigerator when I am towing it down the road? I have a Norcold model number N152, 5.5 cu.ft. ( 2-Way ). Can I run the AC or Propane when I am on a trip? Not sure if I can do either. Looking for comments on what options I have to keep it cold in transit.

We plug ours in the day prior to leaving to get it cold.We always run it on the propane when we are traveling. Never had a problem.

That was what I was thinking. We have just moved up to Hybrid and wasn't really sure about it. What temp. do you usually run it on?

Same here. And the fridge seems to use very little propane.

Fridge runs on 110v, you would need to run a genny. Prob most run on gas while traveling. The new type valves on tanks will shut-off if a release of pressure is noted. Try opening your tanks real fast sometime.

If you drive with the propane on always remember to SHUT IT OFF before pulling into the gas station.. last thing you want is the flame to ignite gas fumes around the pumps.

We chill ours full of food the day before and shut it down when traveling. The few hours on the road is not a problem. Remember, it's sill a well insulated box!


I'm more worried about having the propane system active while on the highway than spoiled food.


If running the fridge while driving, the manufacturer is quite clear that the sloshing refrigerant is OK. Just make sure you are level when parked.

Food will begin to spoil at temperatures above 40 degrees.
- Inside fridge: we got (and love) a Refrigerator/Freezer Wireless Digital Thermometer; packaging includes information on expected and/or safe temperatures.
- Outdoor Kitchen fridge: we turn it on only when we have podium hook-ups and use a simple fridge thermometer, otherwise it makes a great food storage locker for hamburger buns, etc.

This is what I do.
If its going to be hot outside, I put a few ice packs in the refrig just to help out.

Yes you can run it on propane. Keep in mind many tunnels require propane turned off before entering. One tunnel here actually has a propane inspection lane to ensure it is turned off.( Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel)
