Replacing light bulbs

2014 X23B here. I took the clear cover off a light looking to just pull out a light bulb to order replacement LEDs off Amazon. I discovered it was anchored in a funny base and firmly attached with 2 wires.

I'm sure I'm missing something but how do you get them out? I see the little tongue tab to undo but that's not enough.

Thanks!

Pull on just the bulb.. you are looking at the base... the bulb has a glass socket that plugs into the base...

Red face bulb

You know I pulled on it and became afraid I'd yank the bulb out leaving a base behind...like what happens to little Christmas lights sometimes.

So if I grasp the bulb and pull on it, the bulb will exit the base. Then I can look for an LED replacement for the bulb.....which I should be able to find.

Correct? Just to nail this down

This might help. After lots of searching, we settled on these at Amazon: LED Bulb lamp Super Bright Warm White DC 12V. DH is in the home energy efficiency business so we knew we wanted 'warm' and soft LED lights. After much research, he determined that for OUR purposes/needs - this was the best fit. Of course ... it is all personal choice and you'll probably get many additional recommendations.

These paddle style are better as they put more light out to the room rather than up into the backing of the housing..

I went with these myself. Essentially they are all the same. This type has a 3m sticky backing and came with 3 different types of mounting sockets. The ones in the photo, a twist socket for like Car Bulbs and some that look like they would replace glass fuses. LOL

Just another one of my spring upgrades to perform once the snow melts and I can get the Cover off.

X2 Seann. I have 20 of those installed in my TT, and all have worked perfectly for months. Great color and plenty of lumen output.

One recommendation I have for anyone replacing bulbs of any kind is to lightly coat the bulb base with dielectric grease before inserting into the connector. I've had a few bulbs that began to flicker in the past, and found that the wires on the bulb base were arcing inside the connector.

In the presence of oxygen, the base wires corrode/melt/burn when arcing. Dielectric grease seals the electrical connection from the air, preventing the corrosion/burning problem.

You can buy small tubes of dielectric grease at any auto parts store for a few bucks. It's good stuff for battery connections, too.

Again thank you all for the helpful input.

My wife and I have a difference of opinion on the color output. I like the day light, and she prefers the warm white.

Which means we are going with the warm white....so perfect!

That's funny because we have the same negotiated resolutions in my Home.
But in this case, I just don't like the Day Light Aura to the lighting. It would drive me nuts after awhile. The Warm is very similar to our existing lighting.
