Retrofitting a Thermostat
Little plastic do-hicky on the stock thermostat snapped off tonight...
Would love to pickup a Home Depot thermostat that retrofits, heading out tomorrow for the backcountry, anybody have a make/model that I buy locally to install after I get there?

No but I have a stock analog thermostat, brand new, that you can have for shipping. I replaced it with a digital as soon as I bought the RV so it's just sitting on a shelf.
PM me if interested.

Don't disagree - just thought I'd offer.
As a child of Great Depression era parents I just can't throw a brand new working item away. But I doubt I could sell it for enough to ship it even on Ebay :-(.

I have 2 analog ones. In the box. I'm like you, can't throw something good away!
You can find the analog ones on ebay.
Here are instructions to use a Hunter thermostat. http://www.modmyrv.com/2008/07/14/rv-digital-thermostat
I was going to do it but chickened out! If you tackle it, it works just fine w/o the fan speed switch.

The t'stats that you find at Home Depot won't offer the two fan speeds that most campers use. Folks have modified them by installing another switch (and associated wiring) into the housing. I just purchased the correct one.
Like others, I kept the original. This cheap-skate plans on reinstalling it when I sell/trade/junk my camper.

Same here. I have a local repair shop who treats all campers with great respect. Whenever I upgrade a part I give the old one to him and he helps out other camper families who need it at no cost.

I have a whole box of parts that came off my trailer that I've upgraded. I just can't throw them away. I'll either give them away if I find someone who needs them, or I'll reinstall them on the trailer and take my upgrades with me to the next unit. (yes, I'm THAT cheap! LOL!!)
