running WH on propane

Hello, we have a 19H hybrid and i have a question about the WH and running on propane, I turn on the switch and see the flame start, but my question is does the flame burn constnatly or only when temp of water drops, should i turn propane off when not using .

It will automatically run only as needed to keep the water hot.

No it should not burn constantly it will cycle when temp drops it will kick on and when it reaches temp it will kick off. Now some hot water tanke will have a pilot light which will burn all the time but the newer ones are DSI. they will just auto start the burner and turn off when it reaches temp so they dont burn all the time. I just leave mine on all the time then I always have hot water. and I have had both types of heaters

I light ours as part of set-up when we get to the CG. I "try" to remember to shut it down as part of break-down (sometimes I actually remember). My neighbor will shut his off at night to save a little gas. I don't think it's enough to fuss over. The biggest gas guzzler is the furnace - our electric space heater covers that nicely. We're comfortable down to the high 20's (so far).

I shut mine down at night, because the burner is right under my head when sleeping. I know it's safe...I'm just uncomfortable with it on.
