Sewer hose length 10' + really needed?

As many current owners of the x17z will know, the x17z has a built in sewer hose compartment in the TT. Unfortunately, it will only hold a sewer hose 10 feet in length. So my question, how many times will you really need a greater length of 15 or 20+ feet?

I think most of our camping will be done at state parks without sewer hookups, so the primary use of the sewer hose will be at the dumping stations. The dealer sold us a 15-foot Dominator kit and I was just thinking about cutting it down to fit into the stock TT sewer compartment instead of driving all the way back to the dealer to exchange it. But before I start hacking away I wanted to get some feedback before we make our first trip.

I absolutely think you need 20' of sewer hose. I've used mine more times than I care to count. For reference, I carry a Camco Revolution with 2-10' sections and all the assorted tackle and attachments.

Now, granted, you say you'll mostly be in state parks without hookups. But there's that pesky "mostly" thing. Many state parks around here have hookups, and more are being added every day. It's SUPER nice to have some way to hook up your sewer to drain your gray tank (so you can take a regular shower in your trailer) at your site. (granted, there are other ways to do this; I carry a 50' 5/8" garden hose and attachments if I need the gray water to go the distance) And when it comes time to go home, you don't have to worry about waiting in line at the dump station, you can dump and rinse your tanks at your own pace right there at your site.

To me, it's worth the little bit of extra weight or storage to take along 2x10' sections.

Thanks for the reply. After reading your post I think I will just go up and pickup another 10 foot section and keep my 15 foot as backup to be used as an extension if needed.

I have seen some poorly designed dump stations that need 20 feet of hose. 10 feet would be adequate at most dump stations but not all.

Get the fittings so you can use the shortest one and add the longer one to it when necessary.

The only time you will need it is if you don't have it!

Yeah I have a 15' Rhinoflex and a 10' extension. 10' might be enough at the dumpstation but not at all sewer hookup sites for sure.

I've need my 10' extension a couple of times this past summer. And the extra water hose...and the extra extension for the power cable. Don't leave home without them!

We had an '03 Kiwi 17a with the same issue, a small dump hose storage tube. We cut one to fit. In the 10 years we had the trailer I really only had "fit" issues a couple of times. The rear bumper sticks out enough that you probably could mount a tube on it that the dump hose can fit into. I thought about it with our old trailer but never got round to it.

That said I'm really glad to have bumper storage for this on my X20E.

I had all those and didn't plan on using them. I didn't know I'd need them until I needed them! What I didn't have, and could have used, was a 50amp to 30amp adapter. Thankfully the campground had loaners for that.

We have a 15' and an extension if needed. So far we have never needed the extension. But at a few of the sites anything shorter than 15' wouldn't have worked. With that being said we have never dealt with a dump station as we have always stayed at full hookups.

I added a 64"carrier to the back of my 01 Kiwi 17 that will accomodate a 15 foot hose after we discovered the hose it came with was a bit too short.

One of our favorite campgrounds offers fully serviced sites, and it's only about an hour from home, so we go there as often as we can. The sites are set up such that if I can get the wastewater valves lined up just right with the sewer connection, then the slide will hit the water and power pedestals. If I line the trailer up so the slide doesn't hit anything, then the hose won't reach. Maybe once or twice in 10 tries can I get everything just right. In the spring, I'll have to break down and buy a longer hose.

oldmanAZ - unfortunately, I learned on the road that I should have bought all of those things. Luckily the kindness of campground owners/hosts got us by until I could locate a store to get my own additional hose, sewer, power cord, converter, etc., etc. Of course, I had to experience each one individually at different sites to rub in the fact I should have bought it at the same time as the previous item.

So this all brings up another point. Many of us like to carry extra supplies for those times when stuff just doesn't work. But how many of us check those seldom-used extensions for proper operation periodically?

I had to get my VERY seldom-used 2nd fresh water hose out a couple trips ago, and it leaked like crazy! I spent at least an hour and a trip into town fetching replacement replacement (yes, my original spares leaked too!) hose ends and getting them on the hose.

Lesson learned: Check that seldom-used spare/extended equipment for function and wear every now and again because if you don't, it won't work when you need it!

Me, too! I'd also suggest having a set/package of water hose washers on hand. Having those on hand saved me hours and a trip to the store. At another campground I gave a hose washer to help a fellow camper to stop their leaking water pressure regulator.

My repair ends were so bad, that my new fancy replacement washers (that I carry as well) couldn't even stop the leaking! My hose ends were split too, it was a disaster. I have since purchased a new set of gaskets, and a couple higher quality hose end repair kits to keep in my hose box.

I keep a supply of hose gaskets on a hook in my utility hole. Some times when hooking two hoses together, I have to add a additional washer in the screw on connector to stop it from leaking.
