Silly Question

I have another (newbie) question. Why does the fan in the fuse box run when I'm plugged in to my own electrical in my driveway, but as soon as I disconnect from it the fan goes off? I don't see an on/off switch.

It is the cooling fan for the converter. It is thermostatically controlled. The more load on the converter the more the fan will run. When you disconnect from shore power the converter is no longer being used.

That electrical box is a converter. When you are plugged into shore power (your house) it is taking the power and converting it into 12v power that the various subsystems on your trailer can use. When you are not plugged into shore power, the 12v systems are running off your 12v battery; no conversion required for this hence the converter is not actually converting anything. Hence no fan.

Good question....., behind the fuse box there is a converter/charger and the fan is a cooling device for this unit. Once you plug into shore power (your home) the converter/charger is in operation, and depending on the electrical demand placed on the the converter/charger you may even hear the fan operating at a higher speed (normal).

All excellent responses....I will add that since changing my lighting from bulbs to LEDs (which draw less amperage)...I can't remember the last time I heard my converter fan come on.....so don't worry if your fans not running (even when plugged into shore power) - as stated above, the converter fan is typically various speed / thermostatically controlled.

I learned something new today!! I wasn't aware of a fan in the converter!!
