Stripped out latch on rear tip out platform.

Hey guys,
I have a 2007 Jayco 19H. The front and rear panels open using a T handle inserted into a square pin. The rear tip out latch is spinning freely when I put the T-handle in. I managed to get the door open and closed again by accessing it from the inside, but I'd like to fix that.
Has anyone else repaired or replaced that part?
Mike

I think they started using a different style latch now which may cause you to switch all of yours out.

Here's a mod showing somebody switching to a different style:

Or you could try contacting Jayco:

Thanks Snake. I might have to change mine out, but I'm hoping to just replace this one as that would be the easiest fix. I called the parts department and he wanted me to take a photo of the part I need and email it to him, so it will be a few days before I can get back to the camper in storage.
I'll try to completely remove the stripped one too so I can check it out. Maybe it's possible to tighten it up again with red lock tite or JB Weld?

I noticed mine wanting to spin when I turn it, so I push in on the bunk while turning the t-handle to relieve the pressure on the lock arm. Seems to help. If you get it fixed, maybe this will help it from happening again.

When I bought my trailer it had been sitting for more than 5 years without any use. When the guy was showing it to me the handle was spinning on one of them so we had to use vice grips and lots of WD40 to get it to turn. It seems to be working OK now that it has gotten regular use but I can see now that I've got something else to upgrade now. Anyone know where those latch type handles are available?

latch

Well, I found the part number by calling jayco. The round latch with the square head bolt that goes through it and turns it is jayco part #0502230. I called my local campers world that sells Jaycos and they want a whopping $36.89 plus $15.33 shipping for a grand total of $52.22 for the part.

I'll call around and look for a better deal, but that seems really high for a $5 part. If that's my only option I'll have to do it. Hardly the worst expense I'll have with this camper, but sheesh.
Mike

Anybody have a good parts guy the recommend I try?

That's probably cheaper than the alternative which is replacing at least 2 of them with another version. I fear I may need to go this route in another couple years as mine are starting to get this way.

Parts are here!

I received the new parts today. On the last photo, you can see the difference between the new bolt that turns the latch compared to the old one. The square part of the bolt that fits into the latch itself is what broke off. I think the new one might have a little more of that squared piece that fits into the latch so it's less likely to break again. Note, I'm not talking about the bigger square part that the t-handle key fits onto, that's definitely bigger.

I wasn't expecting the part that shows on the outside of the camper, so maybe the kit was worth the money. It has more parts than I expected.

New Parts out of the bag:

In the bag:

Old bolt (broken off at bottom) vs new bolt.

alternate fix

Now that I've seen it all apart and the broken part, I suppose it would be possible for the industrious owner to scuff up the parts then JB weld the bolt right to the rotating latch and mound up some JB weld around them. The problem would be that it has do be done in position inside the door already, because once they would be expoxied together they won't fit in or out anymore. For example, you couldn't repair it in your shop then put it back in the door because each piece needs to come apart to get it into the door. $25 plus shipping for the actual parts is probably better all around.

Glad you posted last pic. It's definitely looks like square part that goes into disk is bigger.

Replace Procedure

Did this replacement work? I have this same problem and I'm now on the hunt for the part and either do it myself or take it to a dealer...
