To cover or not to cover

We purchased a new x17z this spring. This is our first RV. When not using it we keep it at our site at a private campground club located in the Pacific NW. We plan on leaving it at the campsite during the winter. My question is, should we buy a cover tarp for it? Do they cause more damage than they prevent? Any type or brand better?

You will find answers both pro and con to whether or not to cover your TT. Some say yes, while others point out that covers will rub on various points of the covered TT. Is there really a correct answer? I don't think there is.

algie1100-- If your tt in in a lot of trees you may want to protect it from sap which will stain . Even if your not you should protect it from acid rain. I have a Classic Accesorcies cover which works well. Don't forget to put some kind of ball on your downspouts if you cover. Larry ps my cover is water proof.

We had no intention of covering our RV until this past weekend we went and picked it up at our storage lot. I was so upset when I saw all the stains from the maple keys. Our trailer sits under 2 trees. Unless we can move it to another location in the yard we will be covering it.

Save your money.. the covers do more damage than they prevent.. Wash it put a good wax on it and you will be able to rinse off most anything that lands on it...

we have an ADCO cover we use...not a fan of cracked decals, faded and chalky roof or cracked weather stripping.

My only contribution to this is that if you store your unit in a windy area I don't think I'd bother. I was never able to adequately "de-flap" my cover to prevent damage to the cover and/or the unit... Our current rig spent a lot of time outdoors in Florida, so my decals are already cracked. Don't think I'll bother with a cover this time around.

Due to the high cost of gas I have kept my 17Z on a lot that we own. The lot is very wooded, mostly pine trees and pine trees drip sap. I have suspended a tarp over the camper. It does not touch the camper and it is angled so that the water runs off.

We live in an area that over the winter can get total accumulation of 10-14 feet. This is our first winter owning a TT and after much back and forward I opted for the ADCO Tyvek Cover. Campingworld.com has them on sale right now. If you are located in the US the shipping is free. I am in Canada, with the cover, 4 wheel covers, shipping and the duty it was just under $500, which is what I was almost at in Canada with sales tax just for the cover.

The cover is going on next week and I bought some "floor protector" tennis balls for the downspouts that already have the holes in them for $ at the Dollar store.

I opted for covering during the off season to keep the accumulation of dirt, dust and wet leaves off the TT.

I live in Alabama and more concerned with keeping my 17Z covered in the summer between trips to protect it from sun damage. To protect the cover from wholes caused by the down spouts, I cut a three inch length from a swim noodle, then slip it over the down spout. Works great.
