Traded the 17z

So this year we bought a 17z in March & took 3 camping trips totaling 15 nights. We had a great time & really enjoyed this trailer. However, at the last park we stayed we ended up to take a seasonal site for the remainder of this season, and hopefully for many more seasons to come. And, as you all know, a 17z is not designed to be left setup full time in a seasonal site. We thought at first we would use the 17z for the remainder of this year, and folding in the bunk ends when we are not there. That thought lasted for a couple weeks and we just traded it on a 5th wheel.

It's a funny thing, you go looking to buy one thing and end up with another. We went to buy a tent trailer this year, but ended up with the 17z. This week we went out with the intention to buy a park model trailer but ended up with a 5th wheel. You never know til you start looking, so many different floor plans and options, it's mind boggling! And when we bought the 17z earlier this year, we thought we'd have it for a few years, and 6 months later it's gone.

So thanks to everyone on this forum who helped answer questions I had while I was a Jayco owner. The 5th wheel is a KZ Sportsmen. No complaints with Jayco, but I was shopping in the used market so was looking at many brands. I find you can get a much bigger discount on units 1-3 years old and in many cases they are still like new. I bought a 2009 model 5th wheel for 44% less then the price of the 2012 model & it still came with a 1 year on site warranty from a reputable dealer that is currently celebrating it's 40th anniversary and is the largest KZ dealer in our region. And I got a decent price for trading the 17z. I ended up losing $1000 from my purchase price 6 months ago, but we did use it for 3 trips and it would of cost me more then a $1000 to rent a trailer for those trips, so not too bad when you look at it that way.

I'm sure I'll check in for a read from time to time, as many RV issues are the same regardless of brand. But, I guess I should look for a KZ forum, if there is one! Bye for now!

That's funny we bought the same X17z in March of this year, been out 10 or so times and just traded in for Whitehawk, I hope it's not to heavy for my 4.7 Tundra.......it will be close.

When you traded your trailer, do they use NADA as a gauge to set trade in price? Im interested in selling my 2007 jay feather 197 for a 2012 19h.

Sorry for the late response, I'm not sure what they used to determine the trade value, but I can tell you this. When I bought the trailer I paid $11,400 + tax. When we decided to trade I told myself no way would I accept a penny less then $10,000 + tax savings. I was initially offered $9,000 and turned it down. They called me back a while later & offered me $10,000 + a $500 gift card. I declined the gift card and had it applied to my trade, so I got $10,500 + tax savings towards trade in value. They listed my trade for sale on their website for $14,900!

Sometimes they inflate the MSRP or do not discount it as much when trades are involved so they can appear to give you more for your trade. Not saying that is the case with yours, but it happens, which is why the trade should be left out of the purchase discussion until a price is determined on the new unit IMO.

In my case I knew the price of the trailer I was purchasing before getting a value on my trade so it did not get inflated anymore then it already was to begin with. But I hear what your saying, I'm sure it happens all the time. They give you an extra 1 or 2k for your trade only to add it back on to your purchase.
