Trailer e-brake pulled on accident

I was unhooking my 23B for weekend storage. I lowered my trailer jack (with flat base addition) and the emergency trailer brake cable was underneath. The plug pulled out due to the tension. The truck was off, so no power was going to the unit. I plugged the e-brake back in and hooked-up again to see if the brakes were locked and it rolled freely. Did I luck-out with the power being off or do I need to examine this before my next trip in a week?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry,
I miss understood you. I thought while it was pulled out, your tire rotated freely.
I was thinking it should have set the brake with the battery.
No harm done pulling that pin.

If you put the key back in quickly, you most likely did no harm whatsoever. If it were out for an extended / unknown period, I would replace the switch and have the brakes checked. My dealer told me some aftermarket systems have activation timers...other cheap switches would fuse together after a single use. Haven't heard anything like those installed on Jaycos....

BTW....been there done that!

I have pulled mine to check the operation. Also by accident. Never had any problems with it fusing for a short duration.

I would check it out but it may not be a big deal.

Where you say "no power was going to the unit" do you mean you didn't have the battery hooked up? The emergency brake is energize by power from the battery, not the umbillical cord that runs to the tow vehicle. Regardless, I don't think any harm was done. I've pulled my ebrake cable many times and the brakes work fine. I have them checked as part of the axle/bearing inspection at the Jayco dealer ever other year too.

To clarify - when you pull the safety pin, it energizes the brakes from whatever 12V source is available. Typically the trailer battery. I personally know of 2 cases where pulling that pin by accident ran the trailer battery down in no time flat....

Putting the pin back in never caused an issue and stopped the draw from the batteries....

Thanks for the responses! I put the pin right back in when I noticed it was pulled. I am camping this weekend. I will report if everything works properly. I also have my end of year inspection coming up next week.

What's an "end of the year inspection"? Is this a service offered by your dealer?
