Upgrading inside speakers

Has anyone replaced their inside speakers in an X20E? I don't know how to get the covers off to see what size they are and what to replace them with. They do not sound very good and I'd like to upgrade them with something a little less 'flat' sounding.

I assume they are similar to other models but don't know for sure.

There is another thread in either the TT section or the Ulta light section. There was a lot of info there.

Upgrading inside speakers

The speakers in my 184bh were 6.5" Quest whizzer cones. Round white grills were friction fit to the speaker frame and simply twist off.

In my 184bh, mounting depth was a max of 2 and 1/16" which was fine for a set of Infinity Primus speakers from best buy. I also swapped head units with one supporting Bluetooth audio and a cleaner amp (Clarion).

The speakers in my 2012 x20e were each held in by 4 phillips head screwdrivers. Remove those and the speaker will drop out. I replaced them with the Polk DXI651. They are 6.5" You will need to use the mounting gaskets and provide your own longer screws. Took me 10 minutes and they sound much better.

I replaced mine with Polk Audio DB651 speakers and it made a huge difference in sound quality.

Just picked up my 28BHBE, sounds very tempting. Are you just replacing speakers in the main room, or all?

RK... In our hybrid TT's, we just have 1 "main room"!! Most have 2 speakers.

Wondering what year your 184BH is......my 2012 154BH has 3-way 6.5" - they sound pretty decent.

Well we have an additional set of speakers over the Master Bed, and, of course the outside speakers. Maybe I'll try a set in the living area first. If I read correctly, the Polk Audio DB 651 speakers fit without modification? Thanks for any information.

Quick follow-up: I got my new speakers and am planning on replacing them on our next outing. Were there clips to attached the speaker wires, or did you need to solder them?

Thanks!

As a quick follow-up... I upgrade my speakers to Polk Audio DB651's last week in preparation for our first trip of the year. The wires have clips for the terminals, so connecting is fairly easy. I didn't need to use the spacers that came with the speakers, just drilled new holes and used the screws that came with the new speakers.

On word of caution - check the speaker wired for polarity, as on one speaker the black was negative and on the other is was positive. I honestly can't tell the difference in sound based on the polarity but I wanted to get it 'right'.

The new speakers sound so much better!

No idea on a sub-woofer. I wouldn't know where to put it and would be too worried about making my camp-neighbors angry with the noise.

Crossing wires makes the speakers out of phase...you probably wouldn't notice much with a small speaker that doesn't deliver a wide audio range

I upgraded mine to Pioneer TS-G1644R's. Huge improvement over the stock quest ones in there. These are now 6.5". Cost was $27.00 a pair.

Yep, I used that same speaker. I also used the black grills. Two of my OEM speakers of the four I changed out were damaged. The center cones were crushed and one was buzzing.

Installed the DB 651's today. Much better sound. A few surprises were:
Had to drill new holes. No big deal.
The two different connecting tabs were not going to work. Cut off and soldered new.
The gasket. On first speaker had forgotten to install before soldering, but it slips over the speaker anyway, another "no biggy".
Seeing the inside of my ceiling. Not to surprising that it is minimal. Until I've bumped this RV over rough road a time or two will I feel comfortable that the screws caught wood.
Great suggestion on speakers, thanks for the info.
Man those OEM speaker grills were a b*%$ to remove, but the old fashion paint can opener was the trick!

I was pleasantly surprised to find decent 6.5" 3-way speakers in my 2012 Jayflight SWIFT....last thing I expected to see when I popped the speaker covers off.
