Value of this used JF?

We have been looking for a while now for a camper. I have narrowed down my sincere interest to the Jayco Jay Flight hybrids, specifically the 17xx models. I found one we really like; 2014 Jayco Jay Feather 17A.

The problem is I think its overpriced. The dealer wants $12,314 plus sales tax. They have a $995 dealer prep fee, and some $300 of some other junk fee.

My qestions is whats this campers fair value? NADA is of little help to me due to the confusion on options.

As you already saw, the NADA with standard packages and options is $9,750. Unless it's loaded with other options, yes, my opinion is it is priced high. And the other charges you mention are a profit padding, again, just my opinion here.

I think his addons are rediculous but look at this one. But condition is very important as well as at least a short warranty.

@RogerR
Thank you for responding. THATS the one we are looking at. The price is quoted with a payment, but didnt include the $1200 of junk fees. They call the Dealer Prep the "Peace of Mind Package". Of course, they gave me a $1,000 "Finance" discount, whatever the hell that is.

I hate they like about the price on the site, but many of them do it.

You can go to Jayco.com, and find the "Brochure" for the 2014 units.

When ever shopping and talking to salesmen you have to be willing to walk away. Sometimes more than once. You know what your willing to pay, you know what its worth. Take the NADA price sheet with you. Barter with them, demand to see the management. And, then walk away. Wait a week and go look/talk again. Look for a different sales person. You need to show them you want to purchase but not willing to pay a lot.

Like the old commercial says "I'm not going to pay a lot for that muffler".

My problem is I dont know what to offer. I am tempted to offer him $10,750 plus sales tax ALL IN. The unit has what I think is an upgraded wheel package and I can only assume that included something else.

I'd say your offer is reasonable , Chaz. All they can do is say, no.

That's a very reasonable offer. We purchased our 2013 x17z three years ago. It's a very similar camper to the 17a. The sticker price was a hair under $10,000. The all-in price (including an extended warranty that was a stupid mistake) was around $12,000. Again, that was three years ago. Your camper is a year newer, so it's a difference of two years. These trailers have lost value since then, so an all-in price of between $10K and $11K seems very reasonable.

I wonder if they're jacking up the price because the 17a is relatively hard to find? You don't see too many out there.

I am quite confident this is a supply and demand thing.

Slightly off topic, but looking at those pictures, there are a number of things I like better about the 17a than the 17z. The 17a is slightly narrower, which might make an already-small camper seem smaller. But, the 17a definitely seems to have more storage. I like that cabinet by the door and the drawer under the fridge. I'm not a fan of the dinette table. The one in the 17z seems much studier. I'm coming around from my previous opinions on the u-shaped dinette, though. When we were looking, I wasn't a fan. But, with my kids getting bigger, it's got a lot of appeal because the dinette bed is bigger. The 17z has a fold-down couch AND a dinette bed, but both are the size of toddler beds.

Congratulations! Be sure to look it over another time, just to make sure you've caught everything. Have the dealer check the operation of all the appliances, so you won't have any surprises.

Congrats! The only inspection tip I'll give you is to make sure you check the stabilizers. They may not even put them down while you're inspecting. Mine weren't, and it turned out the back ones were bent. I'm not going to say it was purposefully hidden, but I'm not saying it wasn't either.

I would change this to have the dealer demonstrate the functioning of a
everything. You should be standing there with pencil and paper, observing and taking notes.

UPDATE: We ended up passing on the unit. The down payment from the lender (28%) was more than we wanted to part with at this time with the holdays approaching. We have it, Im just leery parting with it.

That's OK. The good news is they make campers every day, and maybe something better will come along in the spring. that tickles your fancy. It's happened to us a couple of times in the past. Good luck, and thanks for the update.
