Water heater bolt
What size is the plug bolt to the water heater? I have a 2013 X23B. Also, is it necessary to grease the slide out track?
Thank you!

If it’s a typical 6-gallon WH, the nylon plug uses a 15/16” socket.

I was wondering the same thing for a 16XRB. Are most of these water heater bolts standard and available most places? The nylon seems to get destroyed when these plugs get stuck.

I picked up a couple of packages of the OEM plugs on Amazon and keep them with me --just in case. Be careful not to cross thread, which is easy to do with the soft nylon.

You can change it out so it’s easy to drain and I got the two fittings at Ace. 7 years now with the drain valve and never a problem. At the end of the season I take it out to flush the tank and leave it out till next season.

A quick tip from a fitter. Place the plug in the slot and apply a bit of pressure and turn the fitting backwards/counter clockwise until you feel a click. Then screw it clockwise, it should find the thread you just passed

Always use a 6 point socket and you will not have problems. Atwood uses a nylon drain plug. Suburban uses a steel drain plug with an anode rod attached. It is 1 1/16 ". Again, use a 6 point socket.

I will say its not faster - the opening of the tube is actually smaller, so it takes a while to drain, and you have to either open the pressure relief valve or turn on the hot faucet to let air in - else virtually nothing comes out cause no air can get in.
But it does get the water away and you can drain it quickly, often, and without tools - I've run back just before getting on the road and turned the valve to let it drain as I drive.

I was comparing it to mine on the better flow rate. No need to use a wrench in that tight area is a real big deal and time consuming. I’m going to change mine over to your way way shortly.

You can not do that mod with a Suburban WH you must use a anode rod.
