Quick question (and my 2 cents), if you were between the X17A and the X20E, did you consider the X19H? It's 'only' two feet longer than the X17A, but that does give you a bit more inside for not much more weight. We sleep 2 adults and 4 kids in it....

I won't get into the towing aspect, others chimed in on that. I'll just say that we tow our X19H with our Sienna. It has the same motor and same transmission as your Highlander. It tows just fine...

As an FYI, this guys setup makes me feel easier about towing 4000# with mine.... The Toads of Towed Haul - Home He's hauling 7500#!

Again...same motor...same transmission...same uni-body type framework.

We were between the X17Z and the X20E. The weight for the X19H was very similar to the X20E. When we decided we wanted to keep our gross under 4,000 lbs, the X17Z seemed like the best fit.

I tried towing my 2015 x23b with a Highlander and it did just fine on flat surfaces. When I tried climbing a little, it struggled more than I was comfortable with. I traded in for a Tundra 5.7. Now I sleep well at night. By the way, Toyota said no problem as the Highlander is over engineered. But I could really tell the difference.

I have a 2014 4 runner. It was already wired for the brake controller. Look up under your dash on the driver side, up high near the front brake wall, on the left.
