Wifi weak signal from campground

Have read a few posts about weak wifi cg signals, but no nothing about the tech terminology, so will ask....


Our seasonal spot in western NC mountains sits at the mouth of a gorge. Absolutely NO cell signal. The cq has wifi which is used by most to make phone calls. We use the wifi for computer, phone and TV in our 2018 19XUD.



The wifi signal to our unit is pretty weak, especially when lots of folks are on it. Dropped calls, buffering, slow laptop, etc.


We are 200+ feet from the transmitter. How/what can I use to boost our reception, without going big $$$ or high tech??

not what you want to hear. Camp elsewhere. Our home is in a similar situation and until the mountain is leveled all we can do go even have a functioning phone and internet is via cable.

The cable often goes out and we visit a field high on a hill with excellent reception but a unwelcoming herd of cattle.

Keep in mind that a weak signal doesn't become weaker when lots of folks are on it. In other words the signal strength is likely not the issue based on what you described and the issue is that the CG wifi has limited capacity. When the issue is with limited bandwidth (capacity), a wifi booster will not help you any. You could run a speedtest . net from your laptop or phone and see if it gets any better when you walk closer to the wifi hotspot (transmitter). ~CA

You're right....not an option. Unit backs up to clear trout stream. Saw 4 other fishermen in 3 months. Great neighbors that will return next Season. Lots of shade, adults only, 5 miles to a nice small NC town. Too nice to move. Thanks anyway.

You could look into Starlink! https://www.starlink.com/

It costs nothing to price it. I have seen more and more of them in cg's. You need a clear shot to the northern sky!
