X17Z - where to put clothes?

Hi All, we just purchased our first camper (yay!). We wanted to start small and don't have a high tow capacity so we started with the X17Z. We are picking it up in about a week- can't wait! My big question is...where do you guys put your clothes??? We have 3 kids and I'm clueless- I'd love all suggestions. I saw in another post to check out the "mods" for this hybrid- but where do I look on here for that? I'm new to the forum, so still trying to find my way around on here...

I usually keep all the luggage in the back of my truck/suv. (4 kids + 2 adults). Realistically you are only going to need access once a day anyways. I use the shower to keep our dirty laundry hamper. You could use your shower if you are not going to use it.

Like you I wanted a bigger TT, but our TV couldn't handle it. We love our 17Z Enjoy!

Congratulations on your 17Z. We bought ours in 2010 after 12 years in Class A motorhomes. Our only regret was not downsizing sooner.

Like WASABI stated, we too use the shower for a laundry hamper and keep the majority of our clothes in the tow vehicle, taking out clean stuff as needed.

This works well my wife and I, a 19 year old and a 15 year old.

For us, each person gets 1 duffel bag for clothes. Plus we have a plastic bin for weather-related stuff like rainboots, rain jackets, extra sweatshirts, gloves, etc. The bin stays in the tow vehicle out of the way.

Agree with what others said about the shower. It's a great place to stack sleeping bags, duffel bags, etc. The older 17Z's (like my 2010) has a tall shower base, but a few years ago Jayco changed the design to a short base.

I also keep my cloths in my van. Only take them out when getting ready for the day. My wife and daughter keep their cloths on the beds during the day and on the couch or bench s at night.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys! For those of you who use the shower to store your hamper- does that mean you don't use the shower? Or you take the laundry bag out of the shower when it's in use?

Hi Sophie, we usually camp at Provincial Parks which means only electric is provided. There would be no way we would have enough water to include showers. If you were at a full facility camp ground you would be OK. The tanks are not big enough. Usually we park near the park bathrooms so my older kids use those bathrooms to preserve the water we do have.

We put our clothes in the cabinets above the couch and the table. Also, you can roll up some clothing and stick it above the beds on the little shelves. We purchased some stacking shelves and put them in the cabinets to make light weight shelving.

Oh, and don't forget the bumper sewage hose modification that MikeFos came up with! Pictures of our mod are located here.

It is a great inexpensive way to store your sewer hoses.

Allamuchy Joe- thanks for the shelf idea and sewer pipe mod! We aren't very "handy" so the sewer pipe idea is a bit scary but you have great pics to show how you did it and we might be able to pull it off :-)

Hubs and I each have a duffel bag for our clothes. During the day they are on the beds, at night on the dinette benches. It's a simple system, but it works well for us.

We bought some of the hanging canvas shelves made to hang from your curtain rod. We hang them on the outer end of the pop out..the top edge does touch the outer edge and gets pushed out a little...I am going to try hooking the shelf unit to the bottom of a hanger and using the hanger on the bar....this should push the top edge out and work...maybe.

Congrats on the X17Z. We bought one this year and have been on two trips so far and we absolutely love it. We keep a collapsable/popup type hamper in the shower as well for dirty clothes.

We travel with 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids ages 5 and 7). We each have a duffle bag for clothes. At night, we keep the bags on the couch or dinette seats. After we're up in the morning and changed for the day, our bags go on the foot of our bed and the girls bags go on the foot of their bed. During the day we're not on the tent ends, so keeping the clothes up there makes sense for us.

The X17Z isn't huge by any means, but it's the perfect size for us and has nearly all the amenities of the big trailers. We love it!

I removed the upholstered panel underneath the sofa and now I can fit 3-4 bins for our clothes.

Cool idea. So technically it's being stored in the outside compartment correct?

Yes!! It was so easy to remove as well!! I wish I would have done sooner since the pantry/closet just does not cut it!! We now use the pantry for our laundry bags.

We have four of these under the sofa now. One for each of us!!

on our 17z we store our clothes in duffel bags under the sofa. the upholstered panel tilts up when you lift up sofa. our shower is used to transport sleeping bags and then is usable once camped.

+ 1 on this.

We had three plastic pins under the sofa to store bedding while travelling. Removed the panel from the front and now those bins (empty when camping) are perfect for storing our clothing once we've set up camp.

Perfect solution for us....
