X19H Major Rebuild?

Just got back from talking with the service department at our dealer. Apparently the canvas on the bunk ends is pulling down from the walls because the opening was cut too large.

Dealer is talking about completely rebuilding the walls and they're working on getting the pre-auth approved by Jayco. The first pre-auth was denied. The repair will be more than six weeks and they want to know if I'll do my own winterizing or if I want them to do it. (I assume for a charge.)

I guess the failed bathroom fan, leaky window and p-trap were small potatoes.

My 2014 leaked from that same area (front bunk). The dealer supposedly resealed. Hasn't leaked since but I am keeping an eye on it....especially now. That area never looked like it fit right, the trim piece is wonky like the picture of yours.....

We're concerned with both "too little" and "too big" repairs. Too little and we may have issues down the road. I'm not sure I want the entire camper rebuild with a "too big" repair. Not sure where this one is going to take us.

What recourse would you have? Do state lemon laws apply to campers? Even so, most states allow the manufacturer 3 tries to repair the same fault before you can file for a lemon law.

I know I'd be upset with that gap along the top if it were mine. I'm both shocked and disappointed, siding with you that Jayco turned down the first pre-auth. They expect you to live with such quality? I assume the dealer/repair facility that is performing the repair sent them pictures, so I cannot understand how they'd turn down the authorization, unless it's the fee the repair center is wanting to charge back to Jayco. Perhaps the repair center has lowered its rate on the second attempt. You may want to contact Jayco and ask if this is the case, then follow up with another service location that can work with Jayco.

I don't believe there's any recourse at this point, and agree that I need to give the dealer a shot (or three) at fixing this.

They said after the first request was denied they sent in closer and more detailed pictures. That's the one we're waiting on. The service folks were pretty sympathetic but...

We were in the middle of looking at upgrading but the sales guy is not being responsive. He's not returning emails and when we went to look at the new ones on Saturday he gave us the keys and pointed at the lot while he worked with other customers. I'm at the point where I'm looking at Forest Rivers but it's hard to do when the trade is in the shop!

Edit: I got a voicemail from him this AM so maybe he's not all that bad.

Good idea to contact Jayco, I may do that today.

Hmmm. I guess business is so good at that dealership, that they don't have time to work with you; did he offer an appointment at least?

I once did this when buying my current used truck; I looked at it online, sent an email to the dealership that I was interested, and a sales person set up an appointment. When I arrived, he had the keys in his hands, I test drove it, and we made the deal.

Ask this sales person (or dealership) if you can make an appointment to work with a sales person. If they say they don't do that, find another that values your time.
