You will usually do this for the first, maybe second camping trip. Then, anything that's not used or needed, does not make future trips!

We actually ditched the thin mattress on our 2015 x23b, and purchased a queen size air mattress. It takes a little head room, but makes all the difference with fitting sheets, insulation and sleep comfort.
