Both my 5 and 8 year olds can sit up in the bottom bunks. My 5 yr old can sit up in the top bunk too but not the 8 year old. Next time I go to the trailer I will measure. BTW, they are plenty long too. An adult could easily sleep in all bunks.

2015 x254

I have a question about the ground clearance of the 2015 x254. We are looking into purchasing one and it appears the 2015 is lower than the 2016. Just curious to know if you have had any ground clearance issues.

Yes, the 2015 is lower. We ordered our 2016 right at the model year changeover. We saw the 2015 in person and I did not like how low it was. If you special ordered it you could add the 2" suspension lift kit. That lift came with the 2016 models. We do not have any clearance issues with our 2016. The total height difference from ground to top of a/c is 111" in the 2015 vs. 120" in the 2016. I am not sure where all the extra height is coming from, if they did more than 2" in suspension or what. I could measure under ours if you like next time I have or visit trailer.

I'm in the market for a new trailer. I'm a family of 7 (2 adults and 5 kids age 15, 13, 11, 3 and 1). We currently have a small popup and use a text as well. Also tow with a 2003 Chevy Express that can tow 6500lbs. I like the look of the x254 since it has bike storage as well as bunks (so I don't have to listen to arguing about who sleeps on the inside of the bed). What years did Jayco make the x254? Are the any others that are similar in floor plan from Jayco or other manufacturers? Are there any cons to the unit?

I think it would be way too much for your TV. We had a half ton (Ford Expedition) originally which towed up to 8900#. Even though tt is only 6000# GTWR it all has to do with payload and acceptable performance. Check your payload capacity of your Chevy Express. Will need at least 900# for tongue weight (15%.) We upgraded to a 3/4 ton and it is a much, much better tow.

I was not able to find any other quad bunkhouse lightweight trailers and I searched! No cons for us so far. Bigger kids more comfortable in bottom bunks (I have 17 and 14 yr olds.) Bought rails from IKEA so littler kids can sleep in top bunks.

Thanks. According to the manual, my max tongue weight is 1500lbs. 6000lbs is the max, isn't it? Would dealers let me pull a trailer before I buy it to see how my vehicle handles it?

Do you mean payload? Payload should be listed on a sticker inside driver's door jamb. Payload includes the weight of trailer on hitch (tongue weight) plus passengers and cargo in vehicle. For half tons it's usually less than 1700#.

Most dealers will not let you take a test drive. It sucks, because what that means is the first time you get a chance to see how your TV deals with the trailer is after you've signed the papers to buy the trailer.

To those who have the X254... how are you liking the dinette/bed setup? Our X213 has the small dinette with jacknife sofa across from it. We love the our coach but doesn't offer much floorspace at the rear for moving around.

If the table isn't there, does it open things up a bit? I'm certain I could convert/build something similar. Thanks!
