Bauer are Locks not involved in recall- OFFICIAL REPLY
Hello,
I wanted to give you a more complete explanation of the Fastec and Bauer Locks. Please note there has been a tremendous amount of disinformation posted about Bauer Products and we need to have this clarified. I have attached some photos that are referenced in the comments below.
1. Bauer does not make parts for Fastec, and Fastec does not make parts for Bauer. We are totally separate companies.
2. The Bauer Lock Cylinder design and Housing are completely different than the Fastec design. This is a very important consideration. The Fastec Lock Housing has a slot that is horizontal and if the key could be removed when the Dead Bolt was in the locked position the interior Dead Bolt Knob would not be able to be turned because the Wafer Tumblers would engage that Horizontal Slot. The Bauer Design has a slot 45 degrees off of horizontal, but it is narrower than the wafers so the wafers could not engage the housing. This is a critical difference. This means that if the key is able to be removed from a position other than vertical the Dead Bolt Knob could still rotate.
Please note, that our locks do not have the same design that would prevent the Dead Bolt Knob from rotating. We hope this explanation helps your understanding of why the recall occurred and why our lock is not included.
