Looks like we're on the list.

I haven't noticed any problem with leaving ours on for an extended amount of time, but we'll definitely add lights to the "turn of when leaving the campsite" list, along with the water spigot now......

Did they change something from 2016? They don't look any different on the 2017 Jay Flights than what I have in my 2016...

My Jay Flight 21QB was built during the first week of February, 2017, I do not believe mine is part of this recall.

Jayco recalls 13,000 travel trailers for LED lights

My 2017 28BHBE was made May of 2016 but before the 31st. I also wonder what changed in such a short time period...?

Here is the problem with this..... i don't go on this site this morning, so i have no idea this recall is going to happen. Next weekend is a long weekend here in Ontario, so we are off on our 1st weekend out with our Jayflight. As usual, as it gets dark, we head over to another family members site for a fire, but before leaving, i turn on a few lights , lock the door and off we go ....because, i didn't know they are having an issue with these lights. They need to send owners a warning ASAP, now, not the end of June! Also, the end of June .... right into prime camping season, be real easy getting the fix done. I know its not Jayco's fault that these lights are an issue, but you would think, if i went on to their site tonite, and went into newsroom, there would be some kind of warning issued. I work for GM, and yes, GM knows recalls .... but what they do do, is send a letter out to their customers as soon as they know there is a problem.... the recall may not happen today, or tomorrow, but atleast their customers are made aware!

Interesting that they can generate temps of 250F with a bulb that draws 4-7 watts of power. Must be something wrong with the electronics for the diodes. Although I swapped to LED for the low current draw, I really liked the cool running compared to the old incandescent.
My guess is that they will find they were using very cheap bulbs from China. Now we'll have TWO types of China bombs to worry about!

our light that is above the sink failed. The failure presented as button not operating and when I popped the lense off the button along with discolored broken plastic pieces fell down. Dealer replaced with nary a comment.

I too wondered about the amount of heat being produced as they are LEDs and expected them to be cooler.

Just talked to our local dealer and our trailer is on the list. They are ordering the parts and are going to replace them. Just not supposed to leave the current ones on for more than an hour

Called Jayco, and mine is affected as well. Asked if they could just send me the parts and they said they couldn't because the dealer has to fill out some federal recall paperwork. bummer

Recall of LED lights

Quote from ConsumerAffairs.com:

"Jayco Inc. is recalling 13,049 model year 2017 Jay Flight Bungalow, Hummingbird, White Hawk, Jay Flight SLX, Jay Feather 7, Jay Feather and Jay Flight fifth wheel recreational trailers.

The LED ceiling lights may produce excessive heat, which may increase the risk of a fire.

What to do
Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected LED ceiling lights with a different light, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on June 30, 2017.

Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for the recall is 9901349."

I don't know if this is only on certain 5th wheel models, or on various lines like the author states. Obviously, there is no such thing as a Hummingbird fifth wheel. Would be interesting to see though.

I called Jayco yesterday to confirm my unit was part of the recall. They did confirm it was. They told me to contact my unit's dealer.

I contacted my dealer after I talked with Jayco and they told me to bring in my unit so they could look at the affected lights and get a count of how many were in the unit needing replaced. I stopped by their this morning and they created a work order and are contacting Jayco for the parts. Now the wait game is on to see when they will show up.

I called our dealer today and they sent Jayco a request for replacement parts.

They said that is took a couple weeks to receive the parts for all the units sitting on the lot, so the one's that haven't been sold yet must be taking priority.....

Hopefully my parts will be here in a few weeks, they said it would take a couple hours to complete the work.

I brought my 2017 Jayflight in this week for a FW tank leak when filling for the first time. Good timing I guess because they ended up changing all the LEDs too.

I'm happy to hear they have the parts on hand and are doing it on a regular visit for other warranty work. That will likely save you another trip to them.

I'm glad these lights are recalled. Have one that I can't get on because the switch on it failed and have two more that aren't far behind. I assume the new ones also have the switch. Does anybody have the make of them or a picture? Just wanna see what I'm in store for when mine are changed.

Jayco finally responded to my email. Nothing newsworthy in the response though:

"Thank you for contacting Jayco customer service. Please contact your local dealer to facilitate replacement of affected lights asap. In the mean time do not use the lights for over an hour at a time and cycle the lights on and off. Do not leave the lights on overnight. This recall does include all ceiling lights in the unit. We are very sorry for any inconvenience."

Is there a VIN range or a date range that I am not seeing on this thread? I can call tomorrow but figured I would compare my VIN if they had that info.
