Overcurrent protection on TT -Recall

I received a recall notice on my travel trailer. The problem "The electric circuit from the battery to converter does not have overcurrent protection. If a short circuit would occur the unprotected circuit could overheat resulting in fire etc..."

I think: the only time current flows from the converter to the battery is when the 120 ac is active, to recharge the battery. When running on 12 volt dc the converter is not activated.

In the power panel the diagram shows the ac feed to the converter and the converter distribution to the dc fuses. One of those fuses is 40 amp and is labeled "reverse battery protection fuse"

looks to me the recall to my trailer is not required.?????

But the wire from the battery to the converter is not protected.

Your recall notification

Just wondering, what model TT do you own? My gut instinct is to have the trailer checked by the dealer anyway.

195rb. I am having trouble finding a Jayco dealer that will take me in for the fix in a reasonable time.

It's possible a non-Jayco dealer can do the recall work, but you'd first have to check with Jayco to have it authorized.

2017 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 265RLSW
Production Date July 2016

I received the same letter from Jayco on the converter to battery protection recall. My trailer was at the dealer for another warranty repair. They completed the recall and installed a fuse. The trailer is still with the dealer but as soon as I get it home I’ll provide more information on where they put this fuse with some pictures.

I have a 2016 Jay Flight SLX 154BH Baja and got the notice. I already took it to the dealer and it does need the fix. Parts are ordered and will hopefully be fixed soon. I talked to Jayco customer service and they said some were built correctly and some were not, so they supposedly have to be checked first to see if they indeed need the fix.

Looks like this has already been posted under the recall section I found by googling. 9930 units affected. Certain 2016-2018 SLX models.

I put am ohm meter and checked from the 40 amp reverse battery fuse to the battery cable at the battery (disconnected ) and I have continuity therefore leaving me to believe that 40 amp fuse protects the wire. I will still probable go to delcity.com and buy an in line fuse and put it at the battery terminal.

If that were true, the shut off at the end of a garden hose would keep the hose from leaking if it gets cut.

Seems like a pretty easy fix put an inline fuse near the battery. I would guess 15 minutes maybe ? But, most service centers are busy. If there are a lot of these units I would set up a day and set appointments and do a drive in drive out fix if it were my shop.

Overcurrent protection

Does anyone have the exact fix for this yet. I prefer not to drive fifty miles to have a fuse installed. Thank you.

You could buy a Maxi Fuse inline holder at an auto parts store with 10 gauge wire leads. Crimp a terminal on the end large enough to connect to the wing screw battery connection and use a crimp butt connector (or solder and shrink wrap) to connect the other end to your un-fused battery feed. Install a 30 or 40 amp Maxi Fuse and you are done.

Overcurrent protection

Thanks for reply. That's what I was thinking too. I wanted to hear back from someone who posted they were having it done just to confirm this was correct

TSB from Jayco

I found this after looking here and see others discussing the recall. I was hoping to check my camper myself instead of taking it to the dealer and waste my fuel. The inspection and correction is so simple.
