Northpoint recall

Received in the mail today notice of safety recall #20V-385, suspension may allow trailer wheels to contact wheel well. Jayco will inspect and MAY replace springs and or tires affected by this recall. Jayco WILL install 4 bump stops on ALL recall units.

Recall 20V-385, 2017 North Point 5th Wheels Suspension System

Just received attached recall today. Apparently “under certain conditions, the suspension system may allow a tire to make contact to the wheel well and surrounding structure of the fifth wheel”.... “that could lead to increase risk of crash”.

Been wondering why they never issued a recall on the North Points. Jayco pick my 377 up in Dec. 2018 and carried back to factory for the same problem.

I'm just curious...what's the difference between the '16's & '17's? Only asking because I have a '16.

Not sure I'm correct, but I think the 16's were on a 10" frame and in 17 they went to 12" which has less clearance.

You are correct. That is one of the "improvements" was they went to a 12" I-beam frame. Which doesn't make sense because the 12" is taller than the 10" which would give more clearance between the wheels and the floor.
I got my recall notice today. They sent recalls out on other models of trailers quite some time ago and I knew it was just a matter of time before they figured out they need to send it out to Northpoint owners as well. This should be interesting...

I just received this notice as well. I have a Morryde suspension and pinbox and this recall doesn't make mention of the Morryde. My leaf springs don't appear to have a bump stop on them either. Anyone have any info on this? I plan to call them tomorrow to ask and I'll update once I get their response.
Thanks,

I called my dealer today and they had no idea of what I was talking about. They didn't even know there was a recall sent out on Pinnacle models and that was nearly a year ago. So, I have to scan my recall notice and email it to them so they can see what has to be done. They said the first available appointment is mid october. Yeah, right. According to the letter this is a safety issue. You'd think something like this would take presidence. Besides, my trailer will be all waxed and put away for the season by then.

Dropped my 5er off at dealer today. Advisor showed me a "ream" of info related to recall inspection instructions. So, not just a "look-see" but pictures, measurements and forms to be filled out by mechanic and sent to Jayco. Based on info, appropriate parts will be sent to dealer. My advisor expects to "git-er-done in about 4 weeks.

Jayco Suspension Recall

Just returned from 4500 mile trip, 2 flats, one blowout (destroyed fender skirt and damaged side of RV), one scary mishap hitting mirror of another RV. Received recall two days after getting home. Took RV with recall paper to nearest Jayco dealer which happens to be Camping Worl, the biggest joke in the industry. Was told by service writer they couldn’t get to it to check it out for maybe three weeks. Told him to read the recall, they have 3 days to get on it once they receive it. He stated that about 300 units ahead of me had priority. I told him to read again because I was now priority. Eventually had to do same with general manager. Now waiting on parts and Jayco to make a decision on paying for damages and replaced tires.

I also bought from Camping World:-(
I have done the inspection myself on the leaf springs and I don't have the Bump Stops the recall letter requires. Jayco won't send me the bump stops so I can install them and require it to be done by the dealer. Not sure how to get these parts so I can drive this rig safely.

After some back and forth calling, I was finally able to get mine squeezed in at the dealer on friday, 8/21. I hauled it 220mi round trip so they can "inspect" it. They had no intel as to what all needed to be inspected. One of the seasoned service guys came out and crawled under it and took all kinds of measurements. He laid under there for a few admiring my disc brake conversion too. Lol! The service manager said they would submit it to Jayco and wait for their decision response, which would probably be a few weeks, as to what recall kit they are sending. Then I have to drag it all the way back there again for the repair. Jayco should eat the cost of either sending a mobile crew to my house to fix it or the 2 tanks of fuel it cost me to get it there and back.

I would like to just get the parts and replace them myself. For some reason they won't entertain this. Any ideas on how to get the bump stops for the axles? It is a simple install.

Called dealer for recall status today. Advisor said Jayco wants 5er weighed. Dealer has no scales. Dealer and Jayco trying to work it out. I am sure they can hook it up and take it across nearest CAT scale.

Have you ever taken it to the CAT scales to make sure you're within the limits?

Yes, I have scaled it. I have not added any appreciable weight to the trailer since. I did, however gain 15 pounds.

Northpoint recall questions

Anybody have any success getting this completed yet?
My unit has been waiting for approval and parts for 3.5 weeks now.
Is there potential for concealed damage on the unit from the frame impact?
Anybody consider other recourse action?
