3M Marine Caulk

Anyone use 3M Marine caulk? It is spendy, but I am wondering if it is effective for particular applications on the RV.

What kind of 3M Marine caulk? They make quite a few different ones.

Personally I would stick to OSI QUAD Caulk for everything but the roof. That is what the factory service center uses.

It's the 5200.

Yes, I use a lot of OSI Quad, on the house as well. It is decent stuff, not the easiest to work with though, and it does not adhere well to some surfaces and over-hardens for some applications; I do not always want that. I am curious about the 3M product, too.

I've used 3M 5200 quite a bit on watercraft and it's good stuff… Also not the easiest to work with though and probably overkill for an RV application based on the price- it's meant for direct contact with water if not complete submersion

I hear you on the over-kill. But then again, it is an RV that is super prone to water and its ravages. Also, I am a certified over-kill guy.

Actually, reading the 3M descriptions, it is pretty intriguing stuff. Capable of maintaining bond during vibration, shrinking, swelling, and shock. Sounds like an RV's life to me.

Then 5200 it is! I have found that 5200 does not bond well to a gel coated surface unless you scuff it up a bit

Reading Amazon reviews, it looks like a number of people speak highly of it with their RV and TT.

If you use 5200 on anything remember it takes several days for it to fully set up and it CAN NOT BE REMOVED.

We bought the 3M 5200 for rework of back wall on 5th and product was set up in tube. The product turned out to be past expiry date. The dealer we bought from gave our money back but no replacement that's all they had was old product in warehouse. It was like they knew we would be bringing it back. Check for dates on product get the newest you can.

Yes, I was reading about these drawbacks. Good point.

5200 Red label fast set will cure in 24hrs. It's an adhesive sealant and really sticky stuff, so wherever you don't want it you better clean it fast!

The Blue tube 5200 takes several days to cure and set. It's used to set running gear on boats and anything below the water line like transducers and thru hulls.

I think Dicor Self leveling is just as good and along the same viscosity and performance based on my use of both products. My opinion.

Quad sealant clear is also my go to for all other seals below the roof line.

You might consider the 4200 by 3M, it's supposed to be much easier to get off once cured but is supposed to work almost as well.
