A/C and furnace both wont run

I rarely ever use either one but just found out that neither the furnace or the A/C will run.. I am at home on 30 amp shore power and just replaced the digital thermostat as I thought that was the problem.. Fuses are all OK any ideas?

There is a seperate inline fuse for the thermo and as dumb as it is, it's in the wall behind the thermostat. You have to pull the pos wire out as far as you can.

I pulled it out from the top and then tried through the acess panel on the bottom ..no fuse.. even ran my arm up the wall as far as it would go... nothing but wires.. checked and do have 12 V to the furnace... no fuse visible on that end either.. then checked the A/C unit there is a big black box up there on thumb screws.. with all the wires running into it... cannot see a fuse there either... guess I will have to drive to the dealers tomorrow and ask them...
Thanks anyway for the suggestion Grumpy

The furnace only requires 12v, the A/C needs 110v and probably 12v. Since you have 12v at the furnace I'd start with the assumption that the problems are unrelated. Do they share the thermostat? If so, I'd start there especially since you just replaced it. Did it work at all after the thermo change?

I changed the thermostat because it was not working... figured that was the most obvious thing to go wrong since I had power to both units..

I had the same problem. Changed the TStat, still would not run. I had a service man check it. There is a reset behind the furnace on mine. Now both work fine. He had to pull the furnace out to reset.

According to the dealer the "black box" inside the A/C unit controls both the A/C and the furnace.. I have to pull it and check all the wires.. oh joy....

Wrong! I have installed numerous a/c units, including a/c-heat pumps and new thermostats. The box inside the a/c has nothing to do with the furnace. They both have 12volt control voltage that comes from the thermostat. If they both are not working it is a thermostat issue, either a bad thermostat, mis-wired thermostat or a blown fuse, either supplying the thermostat or the one inside the thermostat.

Well ended up having to take it to the dealer... $125.00 later they told me that the little switch in the furnace area had gotten switched off.. and that also shuts off the A/C.. must have happened when I was vacuuming out the area since the furnace has no filters I thought it was a good idea.. hmm maybe that is a good excuse to stop cleaning..LOL

I am glad to see you have it fixed Seann. Sorry to hear that they raided your wallet.
