Don't loc tite them.. it will make snugging them up in future very hard.. what happens is the foam gasket compresses and the bolts get loose.. then they can vibrate... just lightly tighten them.. and add that to your once a year check list.

Because of this thread I checked mine this weekend, 3 of 4 were loose. I would never of thought to check that....I have learned many things to look for because of this forum and have found a few things needing attention that could easily become a serious problem....... Thanks for everybody's input

found that 3 of my bolts fell out and 1 was holding the a/c unit in. I tightened all up and hope that i did not have any water damage in the roof.

I made about five trips in a 6 month period in my OFF ROAD POPUP going through northern AL on I59 between Fort Payne and Gadsen where every 8-feet the concrete road was buckled up. It made my trailer actually come off the ground in a couple of spots. That really lossened mine up which I needed to tighten them back... Just like you read - tight enough to compress the large 11-inch square gasket...

I just rechecked mine after tightening them up in May. All were still snug as a bug in rug.

Checked the Bolts on both A/C's on our new Pinnacle, and found 2 bolts on each unit backed out approx 1/4 inch and the others out a turn or so, all bolts tightened up to the mounting plate by hand then snuged tight with nut driver.
Glad we did not have any leak problems.

Since mine is in the shop anyway I had the dealer check the bolts. One MISSING. Three loose. Lucky to still have an A/C unit on the roof.

So loctite is not recommended and I understand why..... how about adding a nut to each bolt to be used as a "jam" nut. My experience leads me to believe that the "jam" nut would prevent the nut(s) from vibrating loose but be easy to "unjam" to address furhter adjustment of the seal... just thinking.

It is more a vibrating loose as the gasket compresses with age... Did mine at the start of the season and now with over 5000 miles on it they are still snug. I think the jam nut would just make it harder to tighten as the gasket compresses more.

While some loosening can be caused by the gasket compressing over time, I feel that loosening could permit even further loosening due to vibration (I'm thinking that is what you were saying).

I do not see how a jam nut would make it harder to tighten the bolts unless the threaded section is too short to accommodate the jam nut. If that is the case, it would be easy to replace the bolts with ones with more threads or, if the threads are cut threads instead of rolled, use a die to cut more threads in the shank.

Space is limited to get in there (at least on mine) and usually once you tighten it once it does not loosen much again... the first big loosen is from the compression of the gasket. I put over 5000 miles on mine since I tightened them this spring and they are still tight..

When I winterized the 5er 2 weeks ago, I rechecked the bolts that I tightened last May. They were OK back then but I added about a half turn to be on the safe side. Still snug today but this will be an annual ritual from now on plus it is also a good time to clean the filter.

In my case it was either improperly installed or they loosened. Here's mine after only 1 trip:

I am planning on putting Loctite on mine, I figure it can't hurt.

Inside cover is 4 Phillips head screws. Hold down screws are 4 small 3/8 or 5/16 in.
Caution, don't over tighten them, just enough to slightly compress the rubber gasket on the roof.
