AC hums when fan is turned on

Intermittently fan hums when turned on. Last time it happened I took the the cover off the AC, the fan blade was hard to turn and I got it to work by hitting the motor and turning the fan blade. Is it a bad capacitor or motor? Would like your input. Thanks

Sound like some dry bearings to me. Try spraying some KROIL in there to loosen it up then follow with some lightweight machine oil. If it spun freely by hand and still hummed without turning then I'd say the capacitor might be bad.

I always keep a can of WD40 around... A squirt here and a squire there... A fan however really should get some fine oil in the mix after you get it freed up...

This happened to me a few years using a MSW Inverter to run my outside 20-inch box fan. The MSW Inverters makes anything that turns get real hot I guess and it finally seized up on me. I finally got it freed up with oil etc but it was never the same. Finally went into the camp ground dumpster.
