air conditioner area roof leak

We had rain last night and this morning I went out to my 1993 RK 3050 to see if I had fixed the leak I had before. I still had the leak. Got to reading the a/c manual and they recommend to elevate the a/c min. 3/4" off the roof. It was flush mounted.

So I built a 1" box and elevated it while I had it apart. Should I have done this or am I making a mistake?

You may need to replace the rubber gasket if it is not snug. The raised lip is not necessary under normal conditions. There is a long thread here on snugging the 4 screws that hold the ac unit to the roof from inside.

I did try that, and the bolts were tight. The gasket was old and showed signs of wear. What I did not like about flush mounting was how over time debris accumulated and plugged the a/c drain. Of course that took a long time to do that, maybe that is why they recommend elevating the a/c unit?
