Atwood Water Heater Issue, any thoughts?

Ok, so we experienced the first issue on our 2016 Jay Flight 26BH. While setting up camp last night, turned on the hot water heater (gas) and nothing. Hooked up a generator and turned on the electric switch for the water heater for a while and still nothing. Propane tanks are on, furnace and stove work fine. No blown fuses. The only thing I noticed was the brown wire seemed to have gotten a little hot at some point over the summer, worked fine on our last trip a few weeks ago using the electric. Anyone else have this issue? I really don't want to have to take the camper back to the dealer if I don't have to. Any thoughts on fixing this? It looks like there is a resistor or something in line near the connector that burnt up. See picture below.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Duke

Duke, that looks like the Thermal Cutoff has been compromised. It's a fusible link and a safety feature on the Atwood water heaters. The heater will not function without it. The part should be readily available at any RV store. I carry a spare just in case.

That melted brown wire was undoubtedly caused by a poor electrical connection. It could have been compromised from day 1 at the factory and just now showed up as a problem. I would take the connection apart and replace connectors as necessary. Also verify the fusible link as was suggested by tcnashville.

Thank you both!! I will definitely be getting a couple new links, one for a spare! Fortunately, we are camping as a group of four families this weekend and one of the other families also has a '16 26BH and we tried his link in my trailer. It definately tries to ignite now, however, I am wondering if a spider has gotten in the tube because when it ignited there was a big flash from the propane building up and it did not stay lit. So I just turned it back off for now.

Well, good news! There was a spider web inside the tube as I suspected. Took it apart and cleaned it out. Put my buddies fusible link in and everything works fine!!

Thanks again for all the help and I will definitely be getting a spare!

Does any one happen to have a weblink to the replacement fusible links?

Cheers

Duke

The fusable link is opened by excessive heat. The blow back from your burner tube could have done that.

Not one to bypass a safety feature but you could have just jumped around it to get hot water.
