Awning beams not in line?

Hey guys. Not sure if anyone here has an absolute straight answer to this but the awning on my 2006 jayco eagle 282 fks does not line up on the inner and outer main beams. Its makes noise when i open it and wont fully close up without me having to get up on a ladder and beat and bang on the outer beam up front while squeezing both beams together (side to side) until it falls in over the inner. Rear is same way but not nearly as bad.

Looking for any ideas on adjusting these or what causes this to happen and what needs to be done to rectify it. Im over using the awning until i get this straightened out.

First 2 pics are front beam. Notice heavy scratching on outer top post of inner beam. Last 2 pics are rear....not as bad but still doesnt line up and go in place without being squeezed/forced into place.

The awning material is in a rail where it is affixed to the trailer at the roof as well as on the roller portion of the awning. Usually on the trailer side it is secured with screws so it can not move but the part on the tube is usually not fastened and can move back and forth in the slot when opened. If it moves too much the side rails are out of alignment like you describe. If so roll the awning back out and pull the material to slide it slightly in the roller tube, then try to close it again. If it is out of alignment the awning will also tend to wrinkle as it closes instead of being flat and smooth. Once you get it aligned you could make a mark on the roller tube so if it moves in the future you can see before you try to roll it up.

And from looking at your photos closer is "silver" awning roller towards the front but not in the back. Try to make the silver even on each end and you should be good to enjoy the shade again.

X2

Working at one end of the awning........, it may take a good 'tug' of the awning fabric material to get it to initially move, so put your body next to the awning arm/tube so it doesn't move. I usually grab the fabric flap and the edge of the main fabric.

Hot dawg that was easy. Haha. Still doesnt look perfect - however i lined up awning on front roller side to side, may not be perfectly straight from roller to camper body - BUT it does not make contact like it did before.

Also. Need a new lock/clamp thats pictured below. Its well used and doesnt hold itself up like it should so consequently it falls back down like pictured and gets caught in between the inner and outer beams. Good way to bigtime pinch your fingers if your not 100% paying attention.

Zach,

My 2005 Eagle had the same awning as yours and mine did well for 12 years......., would take that manual awning in a heart-beat over the electric awning I have now!!
