Awning Help

Hi Everyone,

I noticed on our last camping trip our awning appears to be pulling away from the trailer. I believe it’s because the far right bar is not lining up properly so it gets jammed on the rail and limits full retraction. Because of this the motor still pulls and is starting to pull the awning from the side of the trailer. I looked on the top and it appears to have a good solid hold and seal, but before it completely pulls away, how do I go about fixing this?

I still have warranty, but getting into my dealer and having it fixed is about a three month process unfortunately.

Not sure about the fix, but I would document with both Jayco and the dealer. Probably by email with pictures and both as addresses and keep both in the loop.

Sometimes it will slip in the track where it's attached to the tube. To fix it fully extend it and get it as low to the ground as you can. Then while holding the tube in one hand slide the awning towards one side or the other to straighten it. The whole thing will slip in the track either way and if I remember right it'll need to go towards the side that's not closing all the way to recenter it. Trial and error will get it realigned for you, good luck!

If the fabric is slipping in the track then somebody goofed and didn't install the two small screws to hold it in place. Supposed to be one on each end, through the track and into the plastic bead.

I did look and there are two screws in the roller and the fabric, so it looks like they could have put them in with it out of alignment?

Should also have at least one screw at the sidewall securing the awning cover position.

I had a similar problem w/ my Rockwood a few years back. Never could get it straightened out. My selling dealer was useless for warranty work; the shop 'foreman' had all of 5 months experience.

I suspected they cut my awning crooked, but I unloaded the trailer before I sorted it out.

Sorry to revive this thread. I scheduled my MX in October, took the trailer in February, and picked it up last week.

They said all the work was done so I drove the hour plus to pick it up. Yeah the awning was not fixed. The dealer said jayco wouldn’t warranty it because there were tree branch marks on the awning. I explained those scrapes were little twigs from in front of my house and if that really caused the problem wouldn’t that have pulled the bar rearwards instead of being misaligned forward?

They then said I could pay their shop rate to have it fixed. In short, the jayco warranty is absolutely worthless if there is no one who will actually be able to fix it. So I’m back to fixing it myself because these RV service departments are about as useful as weather reporters.

I’m thinking of pulling the awning out slightly, adding some more screws into the rail. What I’m worried about the though is the bar is still miss aligned and will break loose somewhere else. Does anyone have any recommendations?
