Awning strut

My awning won't stay fully extended in the front and I'm pretty sure the issue is my strut. Can they be adjusted or do I need to get a new one? If new, are they specific to the type of awning that I have? How much should I plan to spend?

Not adjustable, not brand particular, but length and pressure.

There usually is a small sticker that will give you strength and sometimes the length.
Take it off and take it to an auto parts store. Many times they have them.

I had to replace one of my awning's struts and was able to get the part number from the manufacturer's web site. That made finding the exact item much easier. Didn't have to order from them.

Replacing the strut wasn't that hard because I found a tip online that says to just unscrew the body from the mounted ends to remove the old one. Removing the actual ends may not be easy as some require drilling out a rivet while others you may just have to unscrew a bolt going through the end. If the ends are screwed on the strut you are in luck.

I said replacing it wasn't that hard but was a bit tricky. The old one came off somewhat easily as it had lost a lot of its pressure. The new strut was difficult to compress to line it up with the fittings. Took my son and his friend together to compress the thing and screw it into place. Those things are definitely under pressure!
