Battery box rolls out only halfway

When trying to check the house battery water levels, I found that the battery box will pull out only halfway, not enough to check the far cells' levels. The rear terminal cables tighten up and stop the tray from rolling out all the way.

The problem is that those battery cables were run beneath a ground cable that is screwed into the rear of the batter tray. There is enough slack in the cable bundle to allow the tray to roll out farther, but it catches on the grounding cable.

As the picture shows, I need to unscrew that connection, lift the battery cable bundle above it, and then screw that grounding terminal back in. Started to do it today, but a thunderstorm was brewing. Will get to it later.

They also make a remote battery watering system. I have no idea how those works but have seen them mentioned on here where space is a problem thing...

They work really well but aren't cheap. Depending on the quality, the fillers are around $10/ea, and the bulb pump and connections are another $40. So you can spend around $100 for a complete set-up on a single 12v batt. The fillers are a float design such that when the level is about 1/8" below full, they close and don't allow any more water in.

Let me know how that works out - i have the same situation on my 31SS and would like to leverage your experience before tackling mine. So far i have to take the battery completely out to service.

Removed one nut (circled in red in picture) from the threaded post on the interior end of the battery tray. I was then able to reposition the large battery cable to be above that smaller one, and then replaced the nut.

When turning the nut, be carefully not to let the tool touch the nearby screw head that is also noted in the pic, otherwise sparks will fly.

This did allow the battery tray to slide farther out. But, even with the tray fully extended, it was still darned difficult to check the water level in those last two cells. I see a sealed battery is in my future when this one bites the dust.

My 2011 31DS has the same issue. Thank you for the suggestion of moving cables from below. Wish Jayco had a clue, I have complained to them, don't think that Jayco cares once a sale is made. I also plan to replace with an AGM battery, no maintenance, when this one is totally dead, which won't be much longer without proper maintenance.
