Bed Strut Adjustment - Needs more oomph

We switched to a better heavier mattress two years ago and I’m finally getting around to adjusting the struts. I told my DW I would do it, she didn’t have to remind me annually.

I assume that I need to prop it up, and move the strut ends closer together. They offer very little help now so my starting point will be 2” closer. Am I on the correct path?

You need to replace the struts with the same length and a heavier lift. I used 40 lbs heavier each.

Interesting. From what I was reading these were the size a strut manufacturer website calculated that I needed. I will double check the strut size.

The heavier mattress requires a higher opening force. The length still remains the same.

After modifying our base I found that the strut angle does make a difference on the lift force.

Have you considered adding a 12 volt bed lifter to the current struts? That is my intention since adding a memory foam mattress (love it) my bed is a struggle to get up and needs a prop to stay up.

Just replace the struts with higher lift weight… a lot less issues than other methods of moving brackets that may or may not be enough. $50 and 10 mins of your time and you are done.

I ordered some 150 pound struts to replace the 100 pound ones. They will be here this week. Thank you.
