Blowing Battery Fuse

We have a new 2016 Jay Feather. The 30A battery fuse (exterior behind battery/wired into J-box mounted to front cap) is blowing every time we engage the power tongue jack. It is some type of short.

Do I need to create a ground off of the neg. on the battery to the frame?
Should I put in a 40A?
Could the extreme heat be a trigger?

There is no water or any other obvious problems. All of the other fuses in the interior fuse panel are fine, including the 40A reverse battery fuse. The wires from the battery and the power jack look good and tight.

There should already be a connection from the neg. post of the battery to the frame. You should check to make sure it is clean and secure.

Should I put in a 40A?
No, first determine much current the tongue jack is "supposed" to be drawing. You should be able to look this information up on the web based on the manufacturer/model of the jack. Also, measure the current being drawn by the trailer, if everything is off it should only draw a couple of amps, if that.

Could the extreme heat be a trigger?
Probably not. I have used my trailer in all conditions and never had an issue.

This is a common problem with these tongue jacks. I found that if you wait a second or two moving the jack up then to down (and vise versa) you should not blow the fuse. Also, when bringing the jack all the way to the up position, just stop short to the end of the gear stop. I keep spares of 30 amp fuses handy.

If you are retracting or extending that jack all the way it will indeed blow the fuse. This has been discussed here many times. Hope this helps.

Interesting. I have not had this problem with the full extension and retraction of prior jacks.

Please Note! All Power Tongue Jacks should be protected from rain, because they are not weather proof. When water enters the electric motor and gearbox they will seize up and blow a fuse.
All PTJ's are serviceable and you are able to grease them (By removal and disassembly), or turn them around (90 or 180 degrees) for more clearance of the tailgate.
