Broke through the Bathroom Skylight

So I finally did it! Broke my bathroom skylight while putting the cover on the TT. That said, what do folks on the forum recommend as a replacement? We have a Jayco 242BHSW. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help

Has anyone installed a Maxxair on their 242BHSW?

Are you thinking of replacing the skylight with a fan?

I think he is calling the vent with the 6" fan a skylight.

Yes, so basically the "cover" on top of the RV. It goes over the bathroom fan. Put my hand right through the darn thing...this Colorado sun beats the daylights (no pun intended) out of stuff.

The hardest part of putting in a Maxair or Fantastic fan will be getting the dicor caulk off the screws. They both have the same footprint. Or are you only talking the cover?

Probably just the cover at this point. Upgrade to a better complete fan assembly in the near future

The vent lid is easily replaced. Just match the hinge style. Disconnecting the lift mechanism from inside is no big deal either. I've done a couple over the years. A Maxxair cover is a nice addition too.

Hinge lids are easily replaced. I had a broken original lid on my 2000 Dutchmen pop-up and it wasn’t even the plastic that was broken, it was the mechanism, so I replaced the entire unit. Like another poster said, digging out the screws and cleaning up the area for the new unit was the hardest. When I removed the old unit, under the butyl tape looked brand new, like the camper was built the week before…it was 22 years old. The new plastic covers don’t have the same life, but overall, it’s easy to replace only the broken lid and barring the dig-out work, the entire unit install isn’t hard to install, either.
