Cast Aluminum Rims

Wondering if anyone has had problems with the cast rims on Jayco. We are on the road in and have experienced a slow leak in one tire. Took it to a tire store and the rim has a 1" crack on the inside.

My rig is 1 month out of warranty and I can't get a replacement that matches before we leave. Thinking of getting a steel rim like the spare and use it until I get back home.

My dealer says Jayco wants $300 + shipping for a like rim.

Unless that rim was subject to some severe impact, I don't think it should have cracked at all ever. I'd recommend contacting Jayco to ask them if it is normal for rims to crack. And consider filing a NHTSA complaint at SaferCar.gov as this seems like a safety issue. If your tire was leaking air before the warranty was up, it seems that the defect occurred before the warranty was up. Getting a temporary steel wheel has advantages; now you can have two spares and with trailer tires that is not a bad idea.

Instead of a knee jerk reaction of jumping up and down and filing complaints, why not contact Jayco, find out who manufactured the rim, discuss the issue with them and see if they can help you. That always gets better results than pi$$ing off everybody in the chain of people you talk to. I have never heard of an alloy rim developing a crack unless it struck something.

We had a cracked rim too, Jayco replaced it and I bought another one for a spare from Sendel (the rim supplier) for about $90

I found it on the web. Tredit is the supplier. I plan to call Jayco tomorrow. This tire has not had rough service and is not damaged. Was fine till day before yesterday. Takes a day to leak down.

Thank you Tire Pressure Monitoring System!

There are a few posts on various forums that discuss cracks in Tredit wheels. Probably not many compared to the overall volume of those made but even one is too many if it is a spontaneous occurrence.

I would contact Jayco directly on it. They have stood up on some issues on my unit that they did not have to.

My rims were replaced LY due to peeling and pitting issues, but within the warranty period.

A trailer is a vehicle. The only agency that can initiate a safety investigation and possible recall of a vehicle defect is NHSTA. Reporting serious safety defects may help to keep someone else safe and may result in safer vehicles.

Jayco did the right thing. Called them today and they are shipping me a new rim.

The rim had a 1" crack on the inside. It was not leaking when I left my last cg. My TSPS showed a low pressure alarm after about 30 minutes. I stopped and filled it and could feel no leaks. Back on the road for about 2 hours and the alarm came in again. Stopped, filled again and soaped the seals and stem. No leak.

Arrived at my dest., jacked up and removed tire to a local shop. The crack can not be seen unless the rim is submerged under water.
